Message 1010815 - Posted: 2 Jul 2010, 16:26:33 UTC - in response to Message 1010805.

BOINC got a nice message:

Message from server: No work sent
Message from server: This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress

Ohh.. well.. how big could be now the WU cache??

Or again only a nonsense message from the server?

I don't like the looks of THAT!

Yeah, me too got that one :-)

me too!

I wonder if my errored work contributed to this? I reported 11 "computation errors". They didn't all happen consecutively, one after the other, but the new "credit" code doesn't know that, since they weren't reported until just now.

I don't think so, as far as we know, errored work only screws up the broken quota system. This would appear to possibly be another roadblock thrown at us. Unless it is just a bad Boinc message...time will tell.

I've been graced with 9 603's that I've not had for a while - for yonks it's been all Cuda on my little 8800 GTS, and a lot of those flunked out with errors. Now I've got another 12 603's trying to drop in. I'm happy :)

Sadly this looks like an enforced limit (hopefully only temporarily in place to try and limit the spike caused by everyone trying to fill up at once after the downtime).

Once I cleared my uploads I was able to download 20 tasks (all CUDA so far), every time I complete a task I can download a new one. The new limit looks to be 20 tasks per PC.

I wonder if this limit is calculated depending on the number of CPU cores and GPUs a PC has or if its the same for everyone regardless of processing power.

Edited for clarity :)

Well....
Both my top rigs are looking for work, and both are getting the in progress limit message.

Have you tried running the re-branding tool to keep both CPU & GPU happy?
version 1.9

Works for me!

Cheers! I'll have a look - though I'll be brave and wait 12 hours or so until things settle down a bit (It is, after all, the weekend :) )

I'm impressed the uploads went so smoothly. On my work PCs I had about 100+ to upload and they are all done.

Now waiting for downloads. I have 1 idle box at the moment.

My idle box got 20 WUs. Took quite a while to download even one of them, but I finally have work for this PC.

If you read it literally, "Message from server: This computer", means the Server has reached a limit on how many tasks it can run...

Wishful thinking, right....sigh...

Right.

See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/ProjectOptions#Joblimits for the settings the project has available. It's not obvious just what they've set, but I judge by the reports it's likely a temporary limit to avoid server crashes. [Crossing fingers]

Joe,
See my post 5pm and someone flipped the switch. Work has started flowing again and mine seems to be coming in hot and heavy!

And so cause I use the 2.3 dlls, And cause I generated 6 -12 errors out of thousands of good results over the last 7 days, I'm being denied any and all downloads? So I'm a faulty host, This is stupid...

Starting with 6.8, the BOINC client report the resources used by in-progress jobs; in this case, the max CPU jobs in progress is N*NCPUS and the max GPU jobs in progress is M*NGPUs. Otherwise, the overall maximum is N*NCPUS + M*NGPUS).

So, basically downgrading to a client version below 6.8.X.X would make the problem go away :-)

Nice thought, but no dice.
Just for grins, I did a rollback to 6.6.38 on my rig which has no GPU work.

Whatever mechanism is in place for determining work in progress was not affected.
Still got the in progress limit.

I'm running 6.6.36.

@Joe...Thanks.

Martin

ps I think the mental anguish of having hundreds of thousands of results ready to send (per stats page), and not being able to get any of them, or only getting one or two at a time (none downloaded here, yet) is as much of an issue as anything else going on here lately...
