Update plz about the situation now!!!

Arecibo has been back in operation for several months. This is very old news, there is no need to keep this thread active.

I agree 100 percent......you guys need better everything.....money helps to get the equipment needed.....im sure there are ppl out there with money to help, more than we can.......more servers, more computers, more bandwith

Or are you afraid of losing control of the project to somebody else?

Help is good, more is better.....Really !!!!

Faster is better for servers too. Click a green star if you want to chip in. Technical news tells very well what they are working on.

I "chip in" since around 1996 when first heard about it. Computers getting faster, really use less power for many time more processing now a days! As 100s of thousands of computers owners, we donate time to good causes. When started to get tight on $$$ (here in Brazil really Reais) I just shut down for longer periods of time. I only expect that when SETI finds something, governments do not put a gag on you all.

Cloud computing thanks to SETI and now others, is here to stay, and only growing every year. If I can donate to science, I will do it. Just wish I had more processers, and THAT SETI get some work units available so I can continue number crunching for SETI, my number 1 cause!

SETI Staff, congrats on the move to you new headquarters. Next time I make it up to Silicon Valley from Brazil, I will want to stop in and drop you off some REAL coffee.

I hope Seti gets their computers back up soon because I and possibly many others may become disillusioned with the search. I love when companies come up with a new name for something that has been around for years and act like they invented it. "Cloud"

I suspect the only ones that will leave are only in it for the points.
I doubt enough will/would leave as would make a difference.

I've been around since well before Boinc, and am going nowhere. It IS sad to see this much computing power that has already been established and is so addressable be so wasted, too. I don't like to hear that "we" should contribute more than the mega monster computational ability that is here or "we" don't count. Someone is severely lacking in business acumen, people skills, technical expertise and crowd management skills.......... but it costs me nothing except my computer time so I see no point (or basis) for complaining. I just want to see data processed and BEM or LGM found!!

With respect to all:- when dedicated people who have an extremely long history (10 years+ devoted to SETI) decide to post here for the first/second/fourth etc time _EVER_ in their membership ... there seems to be a fundamental problem that is not being addressed.

I agree with these members' views - please consider this a positive endorsement, guys 'n gals, of your considerable and patient SETI experience.

Perhaps a petition is in order?

I haven't seen anyone say that you have to contribute more or you don't count. Did I miss something?

You can't go by sign-up date alone. There are a lot of people who signed up and forgot about the project for years and came back.

But what is not being addressed and what petition needs to happen?

I have only posted twice in the years I have been w/this project due to the technical responses and conversations.

From what I have read the project is basically down due to repairs and that's why I can't get any projects. If so please just give me a yes or no. Additionally it shows that I have been with this project since 2002,I actually joined in the mid 1990's with a different email address and have used a couple of others because of moves to other states and countries etc. Is there any way to find out when I actually joined so I can see how much "actual" credit I have.

Thanks for your time and please non-technical responses only.

The project is down due to repairs, but not at Arecibo. The main servers at Seti in Berkeley were failing, and 2 new ones have been purchased to take over their duties. You will see lots of threads about it in number crunching/Technical news.

The project only started in 1999, so I doubt you joined in the mid-1990's. Without the original email address, no, there is now way to find out how much actual credit you have. The project can only associate email addresses with your profile if you tell them, which means you have to know which email address was used.

Thanks for the info. Bad memory on my part about when I joined it must have been in 99, because I moved from the U.S. in 2000 and came back in 2003.

Where on this site would I request the original join date etc. I do remember my email addresses :)

You can log into your old account using your old email address. Your original sign up date would part of the account info available to you when you log in.

If you've forgotten your old password you can reset it here.
