I have a similar chart here that shows about the same info, but going back 2 years. There's another chart I just tossed together from data from the SETI user stats file. Show different "levels" of RAC and the number of users at those levels.... too big to display here, so here's the link to that one. |

Hm, am I reading it wrong? It seems to say there are 0 users over 100K RAC, but according to the top users list, there are 12. ??? -Dave [edit] And in Boincstats, 14... |

I think it means one of two things... first, I may have something munged up in the script that reads the stats file, or second, the stats export I used is 'new' and those 12 have dropped below 100k, just not reflected in the top user list. If you're a betting man, put your money on the first choice. I'll look it over and see if got something messed up in my cackle-ations. |

Ok, no problem, just wondering if I was reading it incorrectly! -Dave |

I hope you bet on option #1. I *think* the chart is accurate now. Thanks for pointing out that error! |

I think I can handle that.... by the way, I changed it a little (same link)... don't know if it's for better or worse... but I changed the low end to be <1 and >1. To me it made sense, see whachewthink. |

I think the red >1 could be left out Those are basically inactive user accounts |

Even the red <1 category probably does include some active accounts. Looking through host statistics at Boincstats recently I noted there were over 100 hosts which had received credit within the last 30 days but less than 0.5 credits. Given a low resource share a host might only get 1 task in a month and have it go result_overflow and earn some small fraction of a credit. OTOH, a text line simply giving the total number of users would make the <1 graph bar unnecessary and allow the other bars to scale up. The sequence of bars is uneven. I think a 1, 3, 10 sequence all the way would be better. And that would suggest adding the >300000 bar with a count of 1 currently per Top participants. Joe |

Or just to keep things pretty, set it at 250,000. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

[quote] this is based on users not hosts and the few in the less than 1 per day I feel is not needed as the chart was to show top crunchers contribution not every contributed unit Yes the sequence is uneven but so is the distribution 1,2,5 is more than sufficient |

Patterns I have been watching( sorry no links) are.. was approx. 175,000 active, dropping recently to 172,000... new users.. was over 300/day dropping near 200. I have not found averages.. but I am sure they are over all dropping, in spite of people buying new and better systems as time goes on. There might be problems with the "floggings will continue until morale improves" principles that some seem to promote. I realize there has to be a balance.. there will always be problems. I only hope that cooler heads prevail. And loss of mega crunchers... can really hurt things in the long run. Yes there will be more.. but will they come in faster than they get chased out? Janice |

This whole thread and sead chart is to hale the top cruncnhers of active users WHO do the majority of the work Yes what every body does counts but it's far time to acknowledge those doing the most work for seti@HOME |

Kinda funny they are the ones who are having the biggest problems with not being able to get enough work right now, eh? "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

... Yes, if that were used for all columns I'd agree. But it would need 17 columns for 1 through 200000 rather than the 14 now or 12 needed by the 1,3,10 sequence. Not a big deal, any way Scarecrow likes it is fine with me. It's a whole lot easier than digging similar information out from Boincstats or other stats sites, and since I'm on dial-up downloading the full project stats dumps is impractical. Joe |
