I would just like to say I am proud of what the USA has accomplished in the worlds cup.

I admit it is much like rooting for the Jamaican Bobsled team, But the fact they have lasted as long as they did... An honest and heart felt Salute to both!!

I don't begrudge you the win - I just wish you hadn't pushed England into second place in your group, thereby setting up an England - Germany match on Sunday.
I do predict a hangover England on Monday. Either they win - then they will get completely drunk to celebrate - or they lose - then they will have to drown their sorrows.

I had to add this, and don't take it as a dig.

I agree with the 1st post, and i'm glad to see the US finally step up to another sport on the world stage besides basketball.

It requires a vuvuzela to play.

No, it doesn't. Those are only required if you want to drown out any other possible sounds within a mile of the stadium.

Baseball doesn't like them very much either It seems, But then I'd rather hear the Umpire.

As the NYTimes rightly notes, soccer (but we call it football) is going out of its European cradle and conquering other nations, such as Japan and Korea, besides USA and the great South American teams. I am ready to bet on an Argentina-Brazil final.

The 2010 cup competition has not developed for European teams as expected. I dare to say that there is some work waiting for Michel Platini.

The soccer world is fortunate that the 2008 champions of old guy soccer in Prince George BC decided to not attend this World Cup.
Spain, Brazil and Portugal all have a good shot at taking the crown in our absense.

That's me with the ball in the cup.

Yes, of course the success of the other teams has to be granted to them. However this matter will surely be brought upon the agenda of UEFA after the cup.
