Listed below someone mentioned that BFG was moving out of the video card business - where did this report come from?
Todd

Todd I don't see what Your talking about in this thread, Sure You're in the right thread?

Yes, BFG is moving away from video cards, Me I just own a BFG GTX295 and It works good. But then It's a reference design video card.

Message 1007292 - Posted: 22 Jun 2010, 16:18:48 UTC - in response to Message 1007216.

If I did that to the files real name, The rescheduled tasks(from the cpu to the gpu) see there is no x64 seti-cuda app and are errored out, Once I have some real 6.08 files downloaded I could rename the app and the name of the app in My app_info file, As I'm quite aware of what will happen If I do that right now, But It doesn't mean I need to really. Right now the gpu has a daily quota of 1 and that's My fault and not the GTX295 or My files as I had a small learning curve to overcome.

As you said (quite correctly) in that other thread, the name of the file is quite irrelevant. Just because the new name has the string _x86_64_ in it, doesn't mean that it becomes a 64-bit application, or that BOINC recognises it as a 64-bit application. That goes elsewhere.

The only thing that matters is that the name of the file matches the description in app_info.xml

And, as we discussed and as Gundolf is reminding you, it's better to keep the original name, and change the description in app_info, to achieve that match but avoid confusion in the future.

And I intend to, Just not right now, After midnight sometime, the original names will be put back in place, Last night I was up too late figuring this all out.

Message 1007215 - Posted: 22 Jun 2010, 10:09:14 UTC - in response to Message 1007214.

Also I had to rename MB_6.08_CUDA_V12_noKill_FPLim2048.exe to setiathome_6.08_windows_x86_64__cuda.exe, Even though the Program is not an x64 file, But It is working.

Why don't you adapt your app_info.xml accordingly?

He's seen them, LOL.

We even had a follow-up conversation about them.

In any case I probably will restore the files original name, Just not until sometime after the 1 quota limit on the GTX295 has been lifted.

I had some Boinc 128 (0x80) errors in some cuda files that My PC had downloaded, I found out that I needed to update My DirectX installation as It seems It was out of date according to this Unofficial Boinc Wiki Here, So now for the moment I'm crunching a few rescheduled files on the GTX295, I downloaded and used 1.9 of course, But just for a test as I didn't want to wait 24 hours. Oh and I'm using the 2.3 dll files here under Boinc 6.10.56 and XP x64.

Also I had to rename MB_6.08_CUDA_V12_noKill_FPLim2048.exe to setiathome_6.08_windows_x86_64__cuda.exe, Even though the Program is not an x64 file, But It is working.

Well I did the dual psu/PC swap and added the GTX295 into this PC, 1st time I had the 295 down in the 4x slot, I got a red led on the 295 and on the wireless, and I take It that the motherboard didn't like that as the neighboring pci slot has My SuperG 108Mbps wireless card and the primary slot had a 6200 video card there, Boinc didn't see the 295 anyway, So I powered down the PC, took the wireless card out, powered the PC up again, still the motherboard didn't do what I expected, So I powered down the PC for a final time, I installed a new dvi-dvi cable(that I've had for most of a year, I just didn't see a need to use the new cable) and installed the 295 as the primary card after removing the 6200 and I reinstalled the wireless card and then powered up the PC, Now everything works, Now I tested the 295 with the program memtestG80 v1.1 for 50 iterations and memtestG80 found no errors, So I adjusted My app info file after I made a backup to include the 6.09 files, Oh and Boinc 6.10.57 detected the card, As I'm using the 257.15 XP x64 driver, So far It's not getting any work, But outside of that everything is working fine, I even made sure Rivatuner 2.24 is loaded and the fan is set @ 100%. :D

99 percent of cases FAIL when it comes to a proper cooling design, hot air recirculating around the case, a little blowing in a little out!!! heck, it even took data centers a long time to come up with a proper design, collect exhausted hot air and condition it to be recirculated in the front.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163154 this silverstone RV02 is the best case for non water cooling that i've found, all air is moving in the same direction, up. it is possible to a passively cooled rig in this case. i hope to see newer generation of this case in the future addressing some of its short comings.

i've got my three gtx295's in a danger den cube (crappy case), i had to cut a hole for a 120mm exhaust fan directly above to rear of the cards to exhaust the extremely hot air coming out of the gpu's, i also added a chimney to this fan to help the air move away from the case and not be recirculated. the blow hole above the cpus is blowing in. a point of interest, about half of the 295's cooling air gets exhausted inside the case. the air entering the lower radiator is 80 degrees, the air exhausting the rear of the gpu's is about 120 and the air out the chimney is about 116. gpu fans set on 100 percent, gpu core 625mhz.

it also helps to have your case positively pressurized to help push air thru the gpu and out the case. if you have any dust collecting around your cd drive, you need additional intake fans.

Is it both GPU's giving the Comp error or just 1 GPU.
I had 2 GTX295's and they both failed on 1 of the GPU's.
I returned 1 card and had a refund.
I am still crunching on the other card but on 1 GPU only.
You could run the GPU memtest program from efmer that will prove memory is ok and not causing the errors.
If it is a memory fault then the card should be replaced.

Dave

Yes I'll be testing the card as soon as I can do a psu swap, This 900w psu has four 20A 12v rails, While the 850w psu has one 70A 12v rail, Then I can install the GTX 295 in this PC as the 295 needs at least 24A, thanks.

@ Questor: Thanks for the links.

I might try the 295 again, But It means swapping psus, As I don't like the idea of jury rigging this old 900w psu(162mm), Another PC has the required cables anyway on the 850w psu(160mm), It'll also give Me the chance to do some cleaning in the PC with the vacuum, If It produces no errors here with memtestG80-1.1 I may get this card water cooled and yes I can find a 2pcb GTX295 water block still.

Of course try as I might, I can't find any download link for the 6.09 (cuda23) Seti client, 6.08 would just download(I don't have 6.08 anymore I don't think), But I'm using anonymous, So that's out.

If you lose the link to the downloads you can find it referenced in your client_state.xml file in the file info sections.

What would cause -1 errors(cuda) on a GTX295 card, Heat related maybe? That is something overheating as in a physical cause. As last I used the card It was producing work just fine and then all of a sudden It started making errors as there was no air flow around the card itself as the case was open, It would have been worse with the case closed up tight, This was under XP Pro(x32), The driver was 191.07 But of course this has been several Months.

Any ideas?

And I remember they were Computation errors, I'd have added this to the above text, But time ran out. I noticed this FAQ, It's too bad BFG has left the video card market, I think when I RMAed Mine they were planning on exiting back then.
