Cheers guys and girls thats exactly what i wanted. The throttle program - Awesome i have to say - let me know if they need any testers! The reason why I want to go back to the stock app as well as the heat iussue is that I like the pretty screensaver and as my laptop is in work with me everyday it gives me something to stare at! |

how do I return to the stock app rather than using the optimized app I am running? At least to answer your questions, yes, set Seti to No New Tasks and run your cache empty, report all. Next exit BOINC (BOINC Manager->File->Exit->Check "Stop running science applications on Manager exit"->OK). Navigate to your BOINC Data directory (default at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\ for Windows XP. This directory may be hidden). (Double) Click the Projects directory. (Double) Click the Setiathome.berkeley.edu directory. Find and delete the file called app_info.xml Restart BOINC (Start->Programs->BOINC->BOINC Manager). Go to the Projects tab, select Seti@Home, click Reset project, confirm with Yes. Click Allow new tasks. That resets you to the stock applications on that system. If you still want to use the optimized app for the CPU, you'll have to rerun the Lunatics installer. |

The stock app will not cool things down that much - set the client to use no more than 70% of cpu and see if that helps - you can adjust that figure up or down depending on how you get on..

Hi all, got seti running on my laptop and recently its been crashing I think its down to the heat being produced by the deti crunching, how do I return to the stock app rather than using the optimized app I am running? I am guessing I need to let the work queue run down and complete first? |
