> POST IN ENGLISH!! Chill out. Don't be rude. Free online translators are easily available... Domingo was complaining, like most of us, that he is disgusted with the project because of all the problems and the way it went live. He is looking at other projects because of that. Then he expressed how unhappy he was that the support was so centered around English, because there are a lot of Spanish speaking users in his opinion. I think there was a call for forums in another language, but I'm not sure about that. |

For me are two things very very bad: - The live-BOINC runnig more badly then the beta-version - information policy ist more than bad. The last news dated from June 27 |

Well, you can use the free translators, but unfortunately many of them don't make any sense whatsoever. For example: "(German) Ja , Sie sind. Und als dies ist ein überstehen dasein verkehren am ein Amerikaner Universität , es ist höflich zu Stelle am Programmiersprache des aufsässig Land. Eben mein zwei Prozente." translates back to English (not using an automated translator) as: "(English) Yes, they are. And as this is a survival which traffics at an American University, it is polite to place a programming language within the rebellious country. Even my two percentage points." Seriously, though, I do agree that just maybe the BOINC version of Seti was released a tad too soon. Still, from what I have seen so far it is a monumental improvement over the classic version. (English) No need to panic. I'm sure things will be up and running again soon. (German) Nur keine Panik. Es wird schon bald wieder alles klappen. Cheers (Gruss), Andreas "Olli" Olligschlaeger (with apologies for my lack of Spanish language skills) |

> (English) Yes, they are. And as this is a project being run at an American > university, it is polite to post in the language of the hosting country. Just > my two cents. Polite maybe, but it certainly shouldn't be a requirement. This project is open to the entire world, making it kind of absurd to then try to impose language requirements on people who join from the "non-host" country. The site that handles the data for the sig files that people are using here is in Denmark, so should people with questions about the sig files have to post those questions in Danish? If you go to that site and look around their forum you see posts in English - and I have yet to see someone tell them to post in Danish. People should be able to come here and post in any language they wish, with one understanding - the help that they get to any questions they ask, and the number of people they can expect to respond to their questions at all, will be limited by the number of people who can understand the language they use. |

When I designed this forum, I did place in functionalities to support multiple languages and user-specific language preference. I guess they took it out after I left BOINC. Not sure why. |

> (German) Ja , Sie sind. Und als dies ist ein überstehen dasein verkehren am > ein Amerikaner Universität , es ist höflich zu Stelle am Programmiersprache > des aufsässig Land. Eben mein zwei Prozente. Das wars dann zu den Übersetzungen. Dieses Wortkonglomerat ergibt absolut keinen Sinn. Thats all to say to (automatic)translations. This word-conglomerate has absolutly no sense. |

"- information policy ist more than bad. The last news dated from June 27" That's THREE days ago, we're getting pretty much constant feedback/news whilst the site is actually running. Check the RSS, most days when there were problems it was updated more than once a day. Compare this to the old SETI that would go months without news... |

Thats answered many questions. and in this THREE days are TWO days included, where no upload of results and no download of WU's possible. In this case on old SETI comes a news to inform what happens. |

Translation from google cool down the hot heads ;-) I meant myself with it am more time for the development of the software of boinc.it have nevertheless no value this eternal beta test which make it already from if instead the old Seti still another few months keeps running, is years run !.and better hardware to finally procure, which stands also high network traffic.i know all over the world the same problem NO MONEY IN MEMORY OF CARL SAGAN.1934-1996 |

I think we all need a holiday from using Seti@home/BOINC and take a chill pill. The guys at Berkeley look to have misjudged the number of people that will swing across to the first public release of the software and the servers could not cope with this number. It is not the easiest of jobs to work out the server requirements in a client-server system, especially as in the grand scheme of things only a few hand full of us were part the the Beta program and now barrel loads of classic users are possibly now changing to BOINC. And so what if our computers are sitting idle, to my knowledge there is not prize at the end of this project. The only loser with these problems is the Seti project itself with the loss of processing time. |

Just my two cents - Clearly the work load was not completely understood when the change over was implementted however I would look at the situation slightly differently; OK the project is being run by an University however I do not see how that gives them the right to abuse the millions of people who freely donate their spare computer capacity to their project. We should remember that this project will be providing lecturers, professors etc with employment. Research students with projects. The university recieves donations and funding based upon the percieved research being carried out on this project. You all give your time and resources for free, please do not believe that people within the project are not making a living from all of you. Network administrators and IT people please rememnber in future that you could one day be interviewing graduates who may proudly announce their involvement in this shambles as a shining example of their work at university and a very good reason for their being employed. I would consider that the people running this project and who are responsible for the swap from classic have no excusses. It is impossible to believe that they could not at least have forseen the magnitude of the workload when they made the new system available. Regards Neil |

To add another two cents worth because I forgot this bit; Seti and Boinc are many things to many people. The project is not wholly bad and its aims are admirable in many ways however please nobody forget that it is just a business, providing salaries and funding. Would you like to carry on donating your funding after this? Neil |
