Patience is the key.

I posted over there in the last thread of the TNews about the not possible UL.
The SETI@home crew should know it and will do everything to solve the prob.

Patience???? LOLOLOL... in this "everything instant" society, patience is a fast fading form of respect.

This time I was fortunate enough to have full queues on each cruncher, so I can keep on grinding until at least Monday.... if they can't remedy the problem today. <sigh>

I DONATE money to SETI@home.... DO YOU?

I'm just slowly BOINC'ing along.

Stop pushing it so much. You are interfering with *my* ability to upload. ;)

You don't need to push, kick or what ever your buttons.

The UL server isn't connected with the world.

So your handwork activity is for nothing.

BTW.
Maybe a Mod would like to move/combine this thread to/with the panic thread?

I've already suspended work, as I thought this was probably the case. After being on holiday for a week, and clearing most of the work beforehand, setting my cache higher, made little difference.....two jobs in progress and thats it, for both PCs. Oh well, I can always blame it on the new 'Coalition Government' here! lol

Why is everyone in a RUSH?? S@H does not guarantee 24/7 instant access to the u/l and or d/l servers. If you are processing data at a fast rate, just increase the amount of cache on your machine for times like this. I have had my cache set at 10 days for the last several years, and it amazes me on the number of people that complain about about running out of work because of this type of situation. REMEMBER - It is not how fast you get the work done, it is how much of the work you get done!! It will all get the appropriate credit in its due time.

well, as I mentioned earlier on.. it looks like WU storage or a mount did hang. current creation rate is nearly zero for MB and null/sec for AP. In the past, that observation was followed later that day or a day or three later with an explanation that storage was full or an NFS mount got hung.

Getting into the end of the day on a Friday in Berkeley. If a kick doesn't happen within the next 2-3 hours, expect this to continue until Monday (this is also a well-observed situation in the past).

well if i only had a rac of 2k, then a ten day cache would not be a problem. now if you have a rac of 30k per machine then a ten day cache would be a lot larger and would bring the client to its knees.

it would really help if the clients cache prediction/calculation was correct. my cache for gpu and or cpu units is all over the place. sometimes the client will gorge uncontrollably!

The server status page is clearly wrong and theres been nothing posted on the boards.

Why isnt there any explanation atleast of why this is happening?

The project clearly looks like a ship with no one at the helm while the passengers are screaming "iceberg!", 12hr+ atleast (that I know of) and no one can be bothered to write a sentence or two explaining the situation?

Having been a systems guy since the days when programs were written on punch cards and 800 BPI tape was the "high density" stuff I can understand how things can go "south" from time to time.

What I don't understand is the completely unprofessional way the user community has been left hanging for the better part of a day without a single word (that I have seen) about what happened and what the prognosis is.

I guess there really is a difference between academia and the real world.

Let's stop dissing the administration please.

I would like a word as to what the trouble is myself.

They ARE aware of the problem.

I just got an email from Eric.

They do not have answers yet, but in his words, they are 'still debugging'.

Please hang in there, folks.

Trust me when I say that there is not one of you who would like things fixed more than I.

Meow meow.

It's 5PM there, looks like it may be a late night for someone in Berkeley tonight!
Hope they know how much we appreciate their hard work and that we are all wishing them the best of luck in curing this problem.
