Message 995366 - Posted: 10 May 2010, 17:39:54 UTC - in response to Message 995363.

Happy Monday to you all. I spent the weekend trying to coach my son on congruent triangles for his math test today.

I would hate to be that boy's teacher!! Its painful trying to get him to focus.

Thanks Es99, I could use one, Back on Saturday some creep in Virginia dinged My debit card for $44.99 while trying to buy a car(Carfax report), The Bank and I are disputing the transaction of course(I insisted), Had confirmation that a package was delivered to El Paso TX today and that'll net Me about $37.44 from Dish Network I'm told, So I'm doing ok as It were, except for My typing, I seem to be somewhat all thumbs this morning. :D

Still no progress on the unauthorized Carfax charge in My checking account for $44.99, Yeah the Bank flagged It for Dispute, As It's like so:

CARFAX VEHICLE HI CENTREVILLE VA

The Bank said It was keyed in @ 8:29am in Virginia on 05/07/2010, I asked them to cancel My debit card as well and to issue a new one, They did that, The card will arrive before June 1st at least, Now as to when the $44.99 Theft comes off My account the danged Bank won't tell Me when I'll get My money back for good, As they said they will issue Me a Temporary credit...

It's not like I could buy a car in Virginia... Or anywhere for that matter, Besides I like My current car just fine.

Yes, coming up on outage Tuesday. Wonder who will be king of the hill while no one can see it ...

@Victor, debit cards are not credit cards. No protection. I'd be worried about where you used that card in the last six months or so and who sold the information. I'd want to know that so I wouldn't use any card there again. Number one place cards get skimmed is gasoline stations and number two is restaurants. If you are using it online, see if your bank offers a temporary number good for one transaction only. That way if it is stolen it doesn't matter. I'd also get busy and change all your online financial account passwords and the passwords to all your e-mail accounts where you may get a password reset or recovery message. And make sure the password to the e-mail is not the password to the bank account. If they guess one no reason to give them the other!

My bank(Bank of America), Will be disputing the charge as My card has the VISA logo on It, As I was told It will be a Flagged as It's an unauthorized transaction and when It is done processing I will get a Temporary credit back to My account, The card wasn't skimmed of course(I always maintain a watch on It, they run It and It's handed back to Me and I don't use an ATM if at all possible, only if I really need to and I keep all My receipts and dispose of them later, I was commended on only having this one happen to Me, So I must be doing something right), It was the place where I get My powdered whole eggs every month, The place notified Me that a whole bunch of numbers were stolen from their servers and that they have since fixed the problem on their end, Me I canceled the old card and ordered a New card, the old one will now deny any new charges of course, The $44.99 was from Carfax in VA and was entered by hand(manually BofA told Me, I contacted Carfax by email too, No phone number, sounds like they don't want to phoned), Someone wants to buy a car on My dime, There will be an investigation by BofA I'm told. I just wish I knew when this will be over and when I'll get My money back from this theft for good, As I need It to pay the rent with.

Victor, there was a big skimming effort that was going on in California, Nevada, and a few other states. Chances are, yours was probably skimmed. With working for the dispatch center here, even though you've got things pretty much dealt with, please file a police report with your local department. It creates a paper trail, and could add additional charges to those that were behind this skimming scheme. Oh, and I know you said it couldn't have been skimmed, you'd be surprised at the types of skimming machines these people have, even in grocery stores, even though you handed your card over and they hand it back. It still could have been.

Oh, now I win!

Lets see, I use It at the market(not online, can't at Stater Brothers, yet that is), sometimes pizza(not online and I watch the card like a hawk), for gas(not online, obviously) and eggs online, Everything else goes to My checking account really, except for the eggs I don't hand the card to anybody normally, I do swipe It though, So I'm pretty sure It was only the place where I get My eggs from, As I don't use the card all that much online or not. I'll call the local Sheriff Dispatch in the morning, As I didn't think about that, Thanks.

Actually Stater Brothers Markets have never in the last 4 years done that, The customer swipes their own card(So do Flying J and Pilot where I buy My gas for the car), Not the employees, Keeps the skimming problems away I'd think maybe.
