Oh I'm beginning to hate Bank of America, They are now wanting to charge a $35 fee for having a checking account that is overdrawn for 5 or more days, Right now My account is at -$52.20 I've got to get that KVM I have online sold so that I can fix My account with at least a $0.00 balance, They reversed two $35.00 fees, but so far they refuse to budge on the other two knowing what I get a fixed income(No I'm not going to ask, I'm just venting), So I've asked top get two forms sent out so that I can complain about their treatment and both Senators offices are sending Me the forms I need and a postage stamped envelope to return them with, Mean while the online is up to a certain amount, But It has 2 days to go and It has not breached My reserve amount yet, One can only hope as there are 3 people watching there so far. Oh the It's a Belkin KVM and the shipping is included in the reserve, So that I'll have enough to pay for shipping(insured w/delivery confirmation) and enough so that I can send $48.66 to BofA, As I have $3.54 cash in My pocket. It's getting there, But I'm not happy as BofA is being stubborn.

This is why you need to get a Credit Card. If you had used one, the money would not have been moved out of you checking account till YOU said so. The only thing I use my checking card for is to work the ATM machine. Anything I want to pay from my checking account is done with checks. Online and big ticket purchases are all done with the credit card and small items like gas or food are done with cash.
I do have one exception and that's the Joint account that I have with my roommate. On that account I write checks and my roommate always uses the card but we don't keep much money in that account and it's not linked to anything else.
Just think of your credit card as an extension of your checking account and don't charge anything that you would not write a check for. Unlike people who get into trouble with plastic, you seem to know exactly what you have to spend. Knowing that will prevent you from getting into trouble with a Credit Card.

That's the rub, My income is too low($845 a month, It may go to $830 in the near future, In fact I'm betting It will and I've complained already), So I don't qualify for one, Most transactions I do are through My checking account now days, I get hit with one charge at the wrong time and down I go, I feel like I'm Snoopy and the Red Baron has shot Me down in flames. But I have some hope, Hopefully the online thing will pull through and rescue Me, It's a box and contents that weighs 20lb 13oz with padding for the Belkin KVM plus It's 15 cables(8 of one and 7 of another), But Its the best and so far only hope I have. sigh... I'm having a semi bad week. :(

Two things to try. First go to B of A and tell them you want a credit card but will accept a very low credit limit such as $300 (adjust the number if you need a little more limit). You can try telling them that you are considering changing banks as blackmail if you think it will work. The second one will work but is harder. Ask your bank for a secured credit card. With that type of card you must put down the cash value of the credit line. Yes I know you don't have the cash to do that now, but it's a long term goal. If you use the card responsibly, they can over time build your credit to the point where you can get a regular credit card.
It would also help if you know someone in your bank branch office. I can understand how you may not know anyone because I don't go in the bank very often anymore either.

These are the guys to bitch to about a bad bank. They can get things done.

Some years ago I had an issue where Advanta Bank didn't honor is advertised promise. They ignored me until the OCC got on them. After the OCC opened a case file I got a personal letter from the VP at the bank. Him having to get involved cost them more than they ever could have made from me! They dropped that line of business a couple of months later, so I suspect they subcontracted it and the subcontractor FUBAR'd it beyond repair.
