Message 992227 - Posted: 27 Apr 2010, 5:55:56 UTC

Once again I see that some of my machines are boring... no work from project, while other seem to get new work all the time.

Restarting the processes does not seem to work.

Is there something wrong with the servers I'm trying to contact?
The page showing server status indicate that everything is OK, but my machine get "No work from project" and "Project has now work available".

Every time a task is reported faulty in decreases the daily total by one until a good task is reported.
Therefore that msg means you have reported 63 faulty tasks, (100 - 63 = 37 tasks/day).

I would check out your computer, or if overclocked reduce the overclocking by a few MHz.

The good news is that if the computer reports a good task it doubles, until 100 is reached, the downloads/day.

I have not done anything with this computers overcloking at all. It has worked fine for several years.

When I checked now, I began to get MD5 checksum errors. And the quota has been redused to 17 per day:

I checked the log-files for this linux machine. No errors detected or reported. I also got another linux server that does not get any jobs at all.

If there has been any problems with this machine, I would (most likely) have noticed in some way. It's used as a workstation for mail, a fileserver (5000 Gb data), primary internal DNS and has a lot of X-terms open to monitor logfiles at other machines.

Two other linux-machines are, so far, still having work to do.

A window machine (quad core) do have problems from time to time to get work. They seem to use very long time in downloading a workset. Currently one has stalled and will retry in 2:22:20.

BTW, it took me a long time, with several timeouts, just go get form to post a thread...
I have checked my network connection and it's seem to be working fine.

-- Update:
I checked 3 other linux-machines and one other window machine. None of them has received any work for the last 5 days. Some of the are reporting "HTTP Service unavailable" or error code 503 (which I assume is the http error code 503 saying that the service is unavailable).

This is the one I first noticed the problem on (since I'm running Xload on it).

Any reason why this machine get errors?

Also, other machines get 503 errors.

Other than the problems with the download server here, it may be a problem with the choice of BOINC version. 5.2.13 is very old by now. Have you considered upgrading?

Yes I have - I already got a new motherboard with a quad core AMD processor that shall replace the current motherbord/CPU. It will be a complete new installation and a new version of BOINC. Just need to find time to do the upgrade.

I am running 6.10.45 on Windows7 64Bit and I get HTTP errors when Downloading.
Rebooting the machine and resetting the project did not help.
Detaching and reattaching did not help.

So, i think it is not a problem on my side.

It seems like Fedora Core 4 is now too old to run seti. Since the two machines that check MD5 checksum error is running FC4. Newer version is not supported on FC4 (lacking the proper runtime library).

Can someone confirm this?

Windows "helps" you much of the time by "remembering" things ... the trouble is that it can be like a spouse that remembers things that never happened ... in this case, an Internet address got clobbered and remembered wrong ... sometimes rebooting will flush it, sometimes not ...

At one time two Fedora Core 4 machines failed, but now one is working OK again. But the one (link above) is still not getting any work. The task list indicate that it has one in progress, but that is not true. The boinc manager message window say that it has failed with MD5 checksum error.

An explanation of why this is happened would be nice :)

To see the one source of this problem please visit address
http://208.68.240.18/sah/download_fanout/testfile
You should see "this is a test" - which means server is working

And address
http://208.68.240.13/sah/download_fanout/testfile
If you will see "The service is not available. Please try again later." - 2nd SETI server isn't working and only the trick with "hosts" file will help your computers with correct downloads (don't forget to comment lines after the problem with server exhausted)

Both return "this is a test", so I'll try to restart boinc on the machine where I got MD5 checksum and see what happens.
