Okay - I'm partially phasing out my S@H WU's in favor of climateprediction.net I do believe right now that the most imminent threat to civilization is Climate Change. So any way I can help out I will jump at the opportunity. Might go for a 25 SETI /75 CP mix for the time being! Anyone else have their own favorite projects? Regards, - Luke. |

Okay - I'm partially phasing out my S@H WU's in favor of climateprediction.net Hi Luke, On my Q9450 + GTX295 (-half of to keep temps in check) I run 2 CPDN / 2 S@H on the CPU cores and share the GPU 50/50 between S@H and Milkyway (the MW allows the GPU to cool down a little!). Have to do a little micro-management to maintain this share - i.e. download 2 CPDN tasks then set CPDN to NNT for a few days until one or both is complete but if I am not around at the relevant time then a few more S@H tasks get CPU time. I would be interested to know how long it takes your I7 to do one cp.net model. All the best over at cp.net |

I would be interested to know how long it takes your I7 to do one cp.net model. Well - It's 1 hour 50 minutes to do 0.75% - so (extrapolating here a bit) - it will take me 244 hours or just over 10 days of continuous computation to complete a single WU. Just hope I don't have any BSOD's in the process, although SETI WU's always seem to be fine. - Luke. |

I would be interested to know how long it takes your I7 to do one cp.net model. I manage an SM3 slab model in about 190 hours. BSOD's are not too much of a problem because of the trickles - unless it happens at a critical phase of communication between the host and server (as happened to one the 2 that I am currently running when it was about 1/3 done) and then it goes back to the beginning and no more trickles are registered until it has repeated the ones already completed. I would be interested to know how long it takes your I7 to do one cp.net model. Greetings, I haven't done CP.net in years. Either CP.net reduced the size of the WUs or computers have just gotten faster and more efficient at running CP.net. I remember my PC(s) taking at least 6 months to complete a CP.net WU. That was part of my reason for stopping the crunching. Maybe once I get my i7 860 built and running stable, I'll try CP.net again. My favorite BOINC project has been, is and always will be SETI@Home. S@H Beta, Einstein, MilkyWay, Enigma and a couple others, maybe, vie for second, third, fourth... Keep on BOINCing...! :) [edit] BTW! Good luck with CP.net... :) [/edit] CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. I would be interested to know how long it takes your I7 to do one cp.net model. Mine take around 60 to 66 hours depending on the wu. They are i7-920's running at stock speeds with h/t turned on. BOINC blog |

I would be interested to know how long it takes your I7 to do one cp.net model. Yes, but those are the hadam3p models, not the slab model that Luke is running. Your's has a single phase of 26 time steps, Luke's has 3 phases of 24 time steps each. F. |

I've switched 50% to World Community Grid. But since they do not have any GPU jobs yet, probably at least 75% of my RAC will still be S@H (I may up my WCG share because of that). They have an intermittent project called The Clean Energy Project that will be searching for favorable organic molecules for solar cells. This will begin phase 2 in June. Their other projects seem worthwhile too. |

Is it just me or do others find the idea of crunching farms working on climate prediction somewhere between amusing & puzzling :) {: |

i was doing milkyway and cosmology on a centrino laptop.... but the 1.5ghz dothan struggled mightily to keep up... everything else is running Seti, since i'm in a life and death struggle with Hiamps. |

Is it just me or do others find the idea of crunching farms working on climate prediction somewhere between amusing & puzzling :) {: Not really. We improve our understanding more quickly to then hopefully do something positive sooner. There is tremendous squander fuelling global warming all around. On that subject, perhaps the worst is the exploitation of the Canadian oil sands, followed by: deforestation and peat burning in Indonesia; and the extra Giga-Watts of power needed to run Microsoft Windows for even the most trivial of tasks. Why can we not surf the web with impunity on just 5 Watts or less? All Seti for me here... But, best of luck to you Luke in whatever projects you deem worthwhile. Just don't forget to stick your nose in here once in a while! "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Yeah, so it started, but, blah bla, .... , better to have a back-up project and I do like Climate Predicton, as where'n the middle and some other project, but that entirely up to anyones interessess. And it's always recommended, to have a back up project, in case there is no work, which can happen, but not for very long. . You have quite a RAC in SETI, in a few month's, depends on the wheather, if it's too hot (>25C), AC has to be on and 1KWatt/h from 3 QUAD's is too much, 2 are OC'ed and have 2 GPU's each. (ATIHD5770&HD4850|NVidia9800GTX+>S250). ATI cards costs less, then their NVidia's equivalent. At least, where I live, in The Netherlands. And I'm back after 2 day's, a serious hack attemp, atleast, that is what it looked like, no control, a reboot and totally different inlogscreen (classic, and no other available, also no login name!). Well a new set-up, was the only option, but not very annoying, cause 2 drives, 1 for OS and the other programs and data.[/color] And I wish you luck, ofcoarse, and I hope you still have some recourses for SETI ;-). |

I mix projects across my rigs - SETI and FreeHAL on one; Einstein, FreeHAL and Collatz on another, and Malaria Control when this has work Einstein, FreeHAL and Milkyway on another, and Malaria Control when this has work; Finally, Einstein, FreeHAL and Collatz on the last, and Malaria Control when this has work; It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

Good luck Luke! The way I see it, science is science, and if we can contribute with our computers, then it's a good thing! Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! Crunching as a member of GPU Users Group. GPUUG Website |
