Now the doze box at work can't seem to shut itself off. "Waiting for doze to shut down" on the screen from 1AM auto-update when I come in the morning. Bad sign. Takes about a dozen re-boots before it plays nice again. Now my Unix3(r) box is rock. Yes I've had to re-boot it, but does a hard drive failure count? ID: 983623 ·

That just means you aren't paying attention and applying security patches in a timely fashion. Or, at least, that's what my Security Officer tells me at work. :-) My Unix systems don't need no steenkin' Security Patches. And even if we do need 'em, they sure don't require a reboot to "finish" the updates... Restart a simple service, maybe, at worst, and you're Golden. ID: 983643 ·
