Seems like my lot in life lately........
Just when the servers get going, so something happend on my end.

Woke up to find smoke pouring out of two power strips and I do mean pouring..................and you know that is not a good thing.

The whole house powered down. Twice.

Took me half an hour to rewire just to get this rig online........you have no idea.......

And whilst I am typing this, another one went offline.

Dunno why yet.

Give me a few hours or days.........but the kitty farm will never be the same agoin.

Sorry to hear that. I haven't fried a power strip yet, but my UPS is obsolete, and will cost about $1500 do upgrade. I understand to well that there are times when nothing goes right, and then something even worse happens.

Geez Mark. That's dangerous. Glad you and the kitties are safe.
Unless your are already one, get a qualified electrician in to take a look.

And collateral damage???

He is one. His problem is to many computers and to little power. There was a plan to pull new power to is farm but I don't know if that project is finished yet.

i sent some power spikes your way, got to make sure MY RAC is higher then you, it's the only way to catch you. it is also probably the reason why my queues finally are full, finally some work for the masses.

i've melted sockets, nothing was pluged in to it! my idiot builder used the quick push connect sockets to wire my house, with 6 sockets per breaker plus they are wired in series. so it is like pluging in 5 power strips in series, not a good thing. i've been rewireing all the sockets to the screw terminals, i should also add some dedicated wireing. one ohm of resistance can make for alot of heat when you have 10-15 amps flowing (P=I^2*R).

^LOL!^

Mark, sorry 'bout your wiring situation, electical fires are no good. I've seen my share, as I was a fireman for a little over 16 years. Didn't you say you were in WI? If so, how close to Mpls/St Paul? Maybe I could give you a hand with some wiring assistance, if you're not too far away. Have to talk with the boss, of course, but who knows? You saw my wiring job for my (hopefully soon to be) farm, in another thread? You wouldn't need/want to do anything quite _that_ over the top. ;)

Wow. Just wow.

I hadn't thought running box after box might come back to haunt me.

Very glad to see your most recent post and things are quieting down. Save the collateral damage everything turned out for the better I am glad to hear. Could have been a lot worse. Power troubles are not funny. Stay safe.

Regards,

I had a couple of 20A circuits made a few years ago out of a troublesome 60A circuit's 10 gauge cable(the Main Breaker for the mobilehome is 100A by comparison, the cable is very good, But the 60A breaker once It left so did My homes electrical problems which had affected the loading of this PC), I must say they work pretty good, Although the placement could have been better, I should have had both outlets in the Kitchen instead of across from the clothes washer(the outlets are about 5' to 6' away from this computer, Each one can handle 20A, As each one is Its own circuit), Maybe one of these days If I'm still living here, I'll move the outlets and patch the hole with some new drywall and paint all the wall to match(no more wood tone).

Bummer dude, always hated crawling under the house but hate loaded power strips even more. My new room will have 6 20 amp circuits and a 100 amp subpanel in the corner in case I ever need more.

When my Quaddies were on line I had a similar problem. I was running them all in the garage which only had a 20A feed with no reasonably priced way of getting more power to the garage due to it's distance from the house. The cable to the garage would run warm all the time...it was only a question of time!

Glad you have suffered no long term damage Mark. Now time for a rethink on your wiring...

As the saying goes..........
I ain't as good as I once was........
But I can still lay 'em down........

DAVE............

I used to be hell on wheels.......when I was a younger man.
So don't double dog dare me now.......'cuz I'd have to call your bluff.
I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was.......

My body says 'you can't do this, boy......
But my pride says....'oh yes you can......'

The chiller is still down.
Gonna have to sleep some more on this one.......just can't figger it yet.

Gawd, it's cold in here.

But kitty is warm. And she loves me like always.

I'll be back.
