I have been unable to return results for quite awhile. Some of them are getting close to expiration. This is really frustrating :(

Visit my website where you can see my Seti page, my blog, and anything else of interest. Write me at darsys at aol dot com if you want. My blog is at http;//www.darsys.net/quagmire.html

I guess the question is answered. We are alone. Anyone out there? Anyone want our data. I think your servers are in a funk.

Same here... I have 3 pc's running seti. One of them already stopped, and the other two are a couple of hours away from finnishing their last tasks. Nothing im my home network has changed and it used to work fine.

I have already shutted down everything, including my router and booted everything up. (one of them takes about 10 minutes to boot, since it has 7 external hard drives connected to it...) Still I cannot upload results and get new tasks.

Anyone can help us?

Please READ the forums. There are now numerous threads explaining this.

One thing is almost universal here. If you are having trouble connecting to seti then its a good bet someone or everyone else has as well. That being said, yes seti@home has been having upload/download problems since the weekend. So burn through your Cache and if you've ran out of Work then join a backup project and get a little work done on the side

You would at least think they would have the decency to post regular updates as to what is happening and an approx time of return to service I don’t think that would be asking too much considering its hardware and electricity were donating.

.. considering its hardware and electricity we're donating.

Oh, are you sending your electricity and hardware to Seti then? You're volunteering your computers to do work for them, that's something completely different. With all the threads about upload problems around, you'd know by now there's a problem. Be assured that the Seti admin know there's a problem as well.

Ah another one who thinks credits is all. If you took the time to look at my account, you'd see I am not doing just Seti, but a lot of other projects as well. You'd also see I did Seti Classic, and a lot more than you did.

But for your information I don't care about the credits or cobblestones in question. Still looking for that one project who dares to do its science and not give out one credit for it. That'll be my ultimate project. :-)

Ageless (Jord) is a valued member of our community for his extensive and exhaustive efforts helping new users, existing users, and his feedback on the BOINC server/client software, not to mention all his efforts writing up his own FAQ website (located in both of our signatures).

That might explain why he has so many posts.

Be assured that the Seti admin know there's a problem as well.

Actually, we know no such thing. As has been noted, the server status page says everything is running normally, and the only mention of any problems is here in the forums.

You would at least think they would have the decency to post regular updates as to what is happening and an approx time of return to service...

Yes, you'd think that was the least they could do. Pity they won't even acknowledge the problem.

You may know no such thing, but we are telling you to be assured that they are aware. After all, the project administrators run the project on their home computers as well. They see everything we see.

If the problem is really that obvious, do you need them to state the obvious?

That might explain why he has so many posts.

And a couple in the Last to Post Wins threads, when I was still doing those. But since I turned my back on the Cafe, no more. Better for your general health, especially when you're a moderator. {Hint} ;-)

Most all of my post count can be found here in these hallowed Q&A forums, though. You Q, I A. Even if you Q for the 1,400th time. :-)

I was just saying oz fan it would be nice to be given an estimated time of return to service as then we could shut down our pc's and save wear and tear on processors, graphics cards, memory and also save on electric as i stated earlier to Ageless, Although he seemed to think we didn’t donate our computers and electric and simply replied with what I regarded as a snotty answer. Mines been on 24/7 for the past 3 days with no work it would just be nice to have a page to goto where the problem has been recognised and an estimated time of return would be posted i don’t think its to much to ask in return for our donation as that’s is what I see it as.

As with many computer problems, there is no idea how long it will take to fix until it is diagnosed. Then it may be a matter of a few minutes to actually fix it. Typically we do get notices when they have a problem that has been diagnosed that will take a while to fix. We tend to get no notices when something is borked and they have no real idea why.

I understand where you're coming from, but that only works in a perfect world. In most real cases (as John said), not all problems are easily identified nor are ETAs easily discernible from the onset.

Imagine if they posted a note saying they expect the issue to be fixed in a few hours, then it turns out they were wrong and it would take two days to fix? Sure, they could just post an update, but through experience in the IT world I know first hand that a missed deadline puts people off. They don't like it. It's better to either say it will take a week and be done in a day or to not say anything at all.

The only problem I have though is with the last statement of yours. I think anything is too much to ask in return for donations because it's all volunteer. I've volunteered in homeless shelters before, and I work for a nursing home, so I know all about volunteer work, and I know that you can not and should not ask for anything in return. You do it because you want to, not because you're going to ask for something later.

(PS - You might want to work on paragraphs and punctuation. It helps the reader understand your thoughts better, otherwise most people will give up trying to read what you're saying which can cause misunderstandings. I know I only skimmed most of what you typed because I had a hard time concentrating on where one thought ended and the next one began.)

Actually, thats what works in a responsible world. But after all, these are only college students, so perhaps they haven't all had their full dose of responsibility, yet.

You said you were donating your hardware and electricity to the project. I asked if you were really doing that, packing it all up and sending it to Berkeley.

I also said that volunteering your computers is something completely different. If confused, those blue words are links to meanings of both words in the dictionary.

When you still see donating == volunteering, then check out the synonyms on both words, thesaurus: volunteer and thesaurus: donate.

After I said that, you came back with the "I don't mean to be rude, but am going to be just that anyway" routine. Never mind that, I've just returned from a 2.5 month self-imposed outage, I've got energy again, and hereby promise you that I will never look at any of your posts again and - no matter how exotic and unique your problem is - try to help or answer you again.

Now then, with that out of the way, look what Eric Korpela, Project administrator, Project developer, Project scientist said about the problems of the past weeks.
