I have recently overclocked my Intel i5 quad from 2.6GHz to 3.7Ghz and installed a second and more powerful GPU. "My Computer" section (here) in my profile has not updated the new info. I want to make sure that I am still giving 100% to my current projects. Is there a way to update these stats or do I need to unistall/reinstall BOINC? Your Core i5 is showing in your account right here. The info displayed is taken from the CPU ID and does not show overclock speed. The data is updated on the next server contact, which may or may not happen immediately (usually immediately on fresh installs). |

Thank You. I updated my GPU a week ago. I also just noticed that it is not using it even though it is more powerful than my old one (which did get used) All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them. ~Galileo Galilei

That's kind of strange. The best way to find a clue would be to post your messages from the Messages tab in BOINC Manager immediately following a restart of BOINC. The first 25 lines or so should do. Does that mean your video card is no longer the nVidia GeForce GT 240 1GB model? Just want to make sure BOINC is detecting the new card or if that's your old one. |

I still have the GT 240 1GB, but it is now a secondary. I only use it for a third screen, like for a movie on my tv. Perhaps you'll have to set up a cc_config.xml file with <use_all_gpus> and <ignore_cuda_dev> options appropriately set - and/or a display/dummy plug on the GTS 250. Gruß, Gundolf [edit]Okay, if it's primary, then there's probably a display connected already :-)[/edit] Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. Then your issue suggests that BOINC is not detecting the primary display device for some reason. The messages from the Messages tab may provide a clue, as I stated earlier. Unfortunately, I don't run nVidia myself so my help may be limited, but perhaps someone else who's reading might have an idea or two. |

It's detecting it. Here's my log after startup. It says "not used." I think that's strange because its a more powerful card. I'll check the config xml file too. Got it!! I created a cc_config.xml file and placed it in the data directory
<cc_config>
<log_flags>
</log_flags>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
</options>
</cc_config>
Now it starts up and it shows both GPUs as active. 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Libraries: libcurl/7.19.4 OpenSSL/0.9.8l zlib/1.2.3 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Running under account Pembo 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Processor: 4 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz [Intel64 Family 6 Model 30 Stepping 5] 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Processor: 256.00 KB cache 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Processor features: fpu tsc pae nx sse sse2 pni mmx 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM OS: Microsoft Windows 7: Ultimate x64 Edition, (06.01.7600.00) 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Memory: 7.99 GB physical, 19.98 GB virtual 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Disk: 872.82 GB total, 674.72 GB free 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Local time is UTC -7 hours 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTS 250 (driver version 19107, CUDA version 2030, compute capability 1.1, 1024MB, 470 GFLOPS peak) 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM NVIDIA GPU 1: GeForce GT 240 (driver version 19107, CUDA version 2030, compute capability 1.2, 1024MB, 257 GFLOPS peak) 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Not using a proxy 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Einstein@Home URL http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/; Computer ID 2241666; resource share 100 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Milkyway@home URL http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/; Computer ID 134537; resource share 100 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM SETI@home URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID 5237303; resource share 100 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM Cosmology@Home URL http://www.cosmologyathome.org/; Computer ID 76315; resource share 100 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM SETI@home General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 02-Dec-2009 23:14:14) 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM SETI@home Computer location: home 3/1/2010 7:11:16 AM SETI@home General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults Thank You for all your help!!! You may still want to read through the CUDA & CAL FAQ as it'll explain quite a lot of things. |

GeForce GTS 250 is not considered "more powerful" as it is re-badged older GPU generation (== GeForce 9800). This is why BOINC decided to use only GeForce GT 240 before you told it to <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> See (the table): GeForce 200 Series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_200_Series GeForce 9 Series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_9_Series Model Year Code name GeForce GT 240 November 17, 2009 GT215 GeForce GTS 250 March 3, 2009 G92a/b " The GTS 250 is basically a 55nm G92b based 9800 GTX+ GPU on a new P361 PCB and internally Nvidia calls it D10P2. The differences are mainly on the power design; the core and memory speeds are identical to the 9800 GTX+ but power consumption has been lowered. However, not all GTS 250's have these improvements. Some of the earlier GTS 250's were merely rebranded 9800 GTX+ video cards. " P.S. Why BOINC have no preference "Use all gpus" instead of forcing people to edit cc_config.xml ? . P.S. Because it's not an option the developers encourage everyone to use. When this option is set, if a host has 2 GPUs, one with 1GB and the other with 128MB, it treats both of them as if they have 1GB, possibly leading to repeated crashes on the 128MB one. So even while in most cases all GPUs are capable, it's to safeguard against abuse. |
