Looking at my account page I noticed that the Seti credits total, at bottom of page under the Projects in which you are participating heading is about a month out of date.

Looking at my account page I noticed that the Seti credits total, at bottom of page under the Projects in which you are participating heading is about a month out of date.

Those stats are collected and analysed by, and displayed from, a third party collation site: I think it's BOINC Combined Statistics.

BCS is showing a project "Total Granted Credit" of 64,674,389,474 - compare with BOINCstats, which is showing Total Credit 67,709,475,635 as at around 6 am, 23 February 2009.

Both (indeed, all) stats sites get their data from http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/stats/, which at the time of writing is showing

 db_dump.xml 16-Jan-2010 19:35 701
 host.gz 16-Jan-2010 19:31 399M
 tables.xml 16-Jan-2010 19:35 737
 team.gz 16-Jan-2010 19:35 5.8M
 user.gz 16-Jan-2010 18:54 68M

Slightly more than a month, Andy, but a good guess!

I can't begin to guess how and why they had to go back that far - must have had to restore a backup image of the webserver from that date, which implies some very serious damage incurred.

Since our personal stats in the main body of the account page seem to be as expected, the exported stats should return to normal the next time the 'dump' process is run (once every 24 hours, when things are running normally), and the external sites will in turn show the correct figures once they've downloaded the files and digested them. But in the meantime, expect much wailing and gnashing of teeth (and conspiracy theories) from people who see the figures but don't understand them.

I just did the maths in my head, 120k+ / ~4k = ~30days. It ain't difficult, we were taught maths properly when I was at school 50 years ago.

This morning I noticed another issue, web-site preferences in My Account, all had strange and wrong settings.
Use of CPU was unchecked, use of E-Mail and some others.

Even more useful have been the habits that were drummed into me when studying Physics at university 40 years ago:

1) Always do a calculation two ways - once to full precision with all the significant digits, and quite separately on the back of an ebvelope to 'order of magnitude' only - to check that the first answer makes sense.

2) All numbers are completely meaningless unless the units of measurement are stated: I remember that every time a politician in the House of Commons talks about 'billions'. From the context, they usually mean billions of pounds (though sometimes it's dollars), but without the units stated - meaningless.

What if you don't have an envelope handy, can you use a napkin as well? ;-)

"Wailing and gnashing of teeth" was NOT my intention - I merely posted information.

I notice that on my account page, in the stats for all the projects listed towards the bottom (Projects in which you are participating), all my stats seem up to date except the Seti one. It's not in sync with the Boincstats page or the number up above. I know it's usually not in sync with the current running total, but it seems odd that it's not in sync with Boincstats when all the other projects match exactly (I think that's where all the stats come from in the list)...
??
Maybe related to the database stuff we're seeing on the forums, but I would think it would at least be frozen at the number from a few days ago, but it's at a level that's more than a month old.

The silly part is I suspect there are many things that they are still finding out about.

I hate it when Servers overheat!

No, I have not been told what they had to do to get everything back to working. The Stub Web Site that showed briefly (which caused other issues) is an existing web server that was used in the short term. DNS changes etc. caused issues with Master File downloads.

So for a short while "Hell" was out for Lunch. Oh you want Ice Cubes with that... LOL

I would Red-x myself, as it might offend a few users... If it offends you then please Red-x it. It does get the depth of the problem across...
