That was in BOINC 6.10.36. It suddenly gorged overnight. I dropped back to 6.10.29 just an hour before the latest SETI problems started so I have no idea if 6.10.29 will handle the work queue right. 6.10.36 WAS the recommended version. Now it's 6.10.18 |

Unlike many people I see no reason to jump on the latest version unless it has a significant change that I like or need. In my short three-plus years of crunching I've never seen a version that wouldn't work months after a newer version was released - so what's the hurry? |

I too have been unable to upload results or download new packages for about two and a half days now. However, the server status page is starting to look better, and the messages in the boinc manager are different now so it would seem seti is working on whatever problem there is. I think the best thing to do is to just let the manager try on it's own and eventually it'll start up again. I've been contributing for seti since 1999 (with a large hiatus in the middle when they joined boinc and due to other reasons. I'm not about to quit now. Good luck to the people trying to solve the problem. |

Uploading results, downloading new work units and even updating one's project has become such a mission that one is forced to suggest shutting the project down until it can be made to work reliably at least some of the time. While I do appreciate the efforts of the project leaders, let us not forget that the contributors to the project are the ones who are paying to make it run through increased electricity bills - something we are no doubt happy to do, but I think users would be happier contributing to a project that actually works more often than not and bears some fruit. When I can in July, If I have enough, I'll send $20 to S@H, It's all I can possibly do now, But then I haven't won the Mega-Millions Lottery yet(the $20 doesn't depend on the Lottery though). :D Savoir-Faire is everywhere! Yes, and I have to admit that this is a very very BORING game! (Germany, Berlin, but probably from everywhere) No info, no significant server status problems visible, just failure failure failure. Even no download of new jobs... Finally, many thousands of CPU hours wasted. |

Downloading is just fine but uploading isn't working but it appears its the same for everyone. Oh and VW Bobier, I'm right there with you. As soon as I win the lottery not only does my future look brighter so does SETIs. Either way I've been at it since 2001 and I'm not stopping now so take all the time you guys need to sort things out my PCs will be waiting. |

I have got 10 units waiting to unload so I have suspended the fetching of new S@H work until the problem is resolved. |

You guys are lucky, I can't even get downloads. Most of my crunchers have a large cache and still running, but a couple are sucking fumes. Here's hoping for a quick fix... |

I have my preferences set to keep 10 days of work, so I'm still crunching S@H; I just cannot upload results. I spotted what may be a new preference which may be of interest to those who have run out of work units. ----- http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/index.php Click PREFERENCES Click SETI@HOME PREFERENCES Click EDIT SETI@HOME PREFERENCES Check "If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?" ----- I have no idea what this will actually do as I am not out of work. |

Hi Rick; You will usually get quicker answers to questions like this on Number Crunching. What the "If no work for selected..." will do depends on what applications you have selected. For example, I dream of getting AP units, so that is the only application selected in my preferences. I also have "If no work for selected..." set to yes, so mostly I get regular WUs these days. And about one AP unit a month. |

Don't think that will help. If you set a preference, for instance for astropulse, this would allow you to get Multibeam when astropulse is not available, All within SETI. Keith |

well those various outages are potentially concern to me as it may suggest distributing computing is not doing so well; as far it still depends on central 'brain' which , eventually seems to got more and more pain to handle all the clients / wonder how to setup distributed server ... this is not a complain but i wonder how far we get to some ""limits""; since clients are getting stronger and stronger.. cheers jeanpierr€@jpp |

Nothing is a "waste". The units are done - just awaiting a time to upload. Only a waste if you have HDD-failure in the meantime. + if you drain your cache it will actually *save* you money because your machine will drop down from 100%-loading :). |

And about one AP unit a month. Really only one a month for AP? I've gotten about 3 or 4 AP units on each of my machines in the last week (of course a lot more regular ones to go with it also). Of course there's a nice big list of WUs waiting to be reported .. hopefully these issues get resolved before they expire :) |

"Weekly Outage Every Tuesday morning (Pacific time) we have a 3-4 hour outage for database maintenance. The upload/download servers and some web pages are offline during this time" The only different to the last days is the red colour on the status page ;-) |

Don't think that will help. Oh, I thought if you ran out of S@H work units that you wold do work on a secondary project (e.g. Folding@Home) to keep your computer busy. |
