Yes, and I have to admit that this is a very very BORING game! (Germany, Berlin, but probably from everywhere)
No info, no significant server status problems visible, just failure failure failure.
Even no download of new jobs...
Finally, many thousands of CPU hours wasted.

Downloading is just fine but uploading isn't working but it appears its the same for everyone. Oh and VW Bobier, I'm right there with you. As soon as I win the lottery not only does my future look brighter so does SETIs. Either way I've been at it since 2001 and I'm not stopping now so take all the time you guys need to sort things out my PCs will be waiting.

I have got 10 units waiting to unload so I have suspended the fetching of new S@H work until the problem is resolved.

You guys are lucky, I can't even get downloads.
Most of my crunchers have a large cache and still running, but a couple are sucking fumes.

Here's hoping for a quick fix...

I have my preferences set to keep 10 days of work, so I'm still crunching S@H; I just cannot upload results.

I spotted what may be a new preference which may be of interest to those who have run out of work units.

Click EDIT SETI@HOME PREFERENCES
Check "If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?"

I have no idea what this will actually do as I am not out of work.

Hi Rick;

You will usually get quicker answers to questions like this on Number Crunching.

What the "If no work for selected..." will do depends on what applications you have selected.

For example, I dream of getting AP units, so that is the only application selected in my preferences. I also have "If no work for selected..." set to yes, so mostly I get regular WUs these days. And about one AP unit a month.

Don't think that will help.
If you set a preference, for instance for astropulse, this would allow you to get Multibeam when astropulse is not available, All within SETI.

well
those various outages are potentially concern to me as it may suggest distributing computing is not doing so well; as far it still depends on central 'brain' which , eventually seems to got more and more pain to handle all the clients / wonder how to setup distributed server ...
this is not a complain but i wonder how far we get to some ""limits""; since clients are getting stronger and stronger..
cheers

Nothing is a "waste". The units are done - just awaiting a time to upload. Only a waste if you have HDD-failure in the meantime. + if you drain your cache it will actually *save* you money because your machine will drop down from 100%-loading :).

Really only one a month for AP? I've gotten about 3 or 4 AP units on each of my machines in the last week (of course a lot more regular ones to go with it also).

Of course there's a nice big list of WUs waiting to be reported .. hopefully these issues get resolved before they expire :)

"Weekly Outage
Every Tuesday morning (Pacific time) we have a 3-4 hour outage for database maintenance. The upload/download servers and some web pages are offline during this time"

The only different to the last days is the red colour on the status page ;-)

Oh, I thought if you ran out of S@H work units that you wold do work on a secondary project (e.g. Folding@Home) to keep your computer busy.

I wonder where all the new WU's are going, since by now even the slowest machines should have enough unfinished uploads sitting around to prevent them from downloading new WU's ?

The only thing I can think of is that some people are downloading new wu's on a machine that is not crunching at all and therefor is not blocked by not uploaded results, and then sneaker net the new wu's to other comps which subsequently hoard thousands of results until the upload problem is resolved. I have never tried this, but would it be possible ?

Well, I don't know, I joined s@h to make use of the unused cpu cycles of my machines, and took a 5 year break from 2004 until 2009 because it all got to tedious. Maybe it's time to take another break until 2014 or so ...

Some of use run a lot of projects, and so do not have very much from any particular project on hand. I haven't checked, but most of my machines have probably not gotten to the upload limit yet.

With the most recent (development) build, it is possible to set a resource share to 0 for a project and then the project will only download and run work if there is no work available from the list of primary projects (with resource shares > 0).

My slowest cruncher, a dual PIII 700MHz machine, still has about 40 hours of work to do.

The only thing I can think of is that some people are downloading new wu's on a machine that is not crunching at all and therefor is not blocked by not uploaded results, and then sneaker net the new wu's to other comps which subsequently hoard thousands of results until the upload problem is resolved. It's possible, but not nearly as easy as one would think. You can't simply copy the workunits themselves. You have to copy the entire \BOINC data tree. There's much more to it than that, and it's very tedious to do. It's completely manual and one human mistake can ruin the entire process.

Well, I don't know, I joined s@h to make use of the unused cpu cycles of my machines, and took a 5 year break from 2004 until 2009 because it all got to tedious. Maybe it's time to take another break until 2014 or so ...

That's certainly one option. Or you can join another project to keep busy with a low resource setting if you prefer, and weather the storm for SETI. I've been doing this since 2002 and I haven't found a storm that can get rid of me yet. :)
