Tonight's database problem was caused by a bunch of queries to a certain forum thread hanging. I don't know yet whether this was an accidental or a deliberate denial-of-service attack. Probably accidental, but I'm checking it out anyway. @SETIEric@qoto.org (Mastodon) |

Tonight's database problem was caused by a bunch of queries to a certain forum thread hanging. I don't know yet whether this was an accidental or a deliberate denial-of-service attack. Probably accidental, but I'm checking it out anyway. Thanks for the update Eric. My modest Transfers Queue finally cleared itself again tonight. Second times a charm. I haven't requested any new tasks this time. I'll wait until things clear a bit. I've wondered if the earlier Boinc client versions that don't have 'Project Backoff' built into them might also present the appearance of a denial of service attack on the upload servers. I've noticed that many people are still using older client versions. |

Thank you for the late night attempt at setting things right Eric. Late last night, just before you rebooted, I had both the forum and the server status page hang and just sit there waiting for a response from the servers. Unfortunately the reboot did not resolve the comms issue. Have not had even one rig able to report any work for over 7 hours now. And of course, others that have not been able to get through for many days. Hope you have better luck with your troubleshooting when you get back in this morning. Best Regards, Mark "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |
