That is not newsworthy. Translated - Nobody ever lost a dime because SETI wasn't available. ![]() |

That is not newsworthy. Translate this........... Got it? It is newsworthy to ME. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

That is not newsworthy. I'm saying that the BOINC client expects outages. It is the people who are fickle, and thin-skinned, and apparently, see the impending destruction of civilization in the most trivial hiccups. With Amazon, those fickle consumers are an integral part of the process. With BOINC, it will run fine without the slightest bit of supervision. When the project servers are down, work continues. |

That is not newsworthy. Yes, and if you could gain just a little bit of perspective, you'd be much happier. "The first sign of a nervous breakdown is when you start thinking your work is terribly important." -- Milo Bloom |

That is not newsworthy. Ned.... May I cry now? 8 rigs chugging along...one has not been able to phone home since the 16th. No reporting, no new work. Please don't belittle one who cares so much about a simple science project. I have donated hours of my life and countless dollars to it. And it hurts me that things have gone bad. Not a life-changing thing, but it does affect me more than some realize. Hope you can understand that. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

I doubt that anyone can influence what you do. The problem is, I do realize how much this affects you. This stuff is cool, this stuff is fun, you're supposed to enjoy it. When it becomes an obsession, that is not healthy. When you start threatening people because they point out that you really should take a deep breath and try to relax, that's not healthy. You've done some really interesting stuff -- but you need to get a grip on what it all means. It's a hobby. It is not your life. |

And THAT, exactly, is where you and I disagree. It does happen to be my life. Seti and kitties. Can you hear me now? "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

Time to take either a chill pill or group therapy folks, this is starting to get a little ridiculous. ET will still be out there whether it takes us a day longer to find him/her or not, so sit back, relax, enjoy the weekend, maybe tune into the Olympics since they only happen every four years (offset by two), and just be happy. Thing'll get fixed by next week - just wait one or two more days until then... Intergalactic peace~ (~please~) |

Thing'll get fixed by next week - just wait one or two more days until then... Quoted For Truth. For the past several days, I had specified no new tasks for SETI@home. Tonight, I just downloaded a day's worth of work units for my gpu(s) just to chew on until tomorrow. After those are completed, I will specify no new tasks, again, at least for a while. My electricity usage is significantly higher when processing CUDA work units 24/7, but it's a choice I make. I don't need a pat on the back for my contributions of electricity, computing power, or monetary donations to SETI@home. I'm glad to have the opportunity to help out when I can. If there are technical problems occurring at SETI@home, they will eventually be resolved. I don't lose any sleep over it. It'll get fixed. |

Does anyone know for sure that SETI isn't run and funded by some gov org? If you go to the home page and click on Donate or on the link in this post, it will take you to a page that has your answer on the first line. Even the signal recording is mostly idle time on the dish or shared time allocated to someone else when the dish is being used in a way that provides useful data. People donate hardware, money and sometimes even their services such as software developer. This is truly a labor of love because there is no money in it. |

In this business I am am surprised with the following: why there is no reaction of officials to problems of participants. On the main page was post on February, 17th - it have cleaned. On status page all is fine (though decrease in quantity of the accepted tasks obviously). The fifth day set of volunteers cannot work on the project (that obviously in the statistican), and official explanations, apologies and assurances of aspiration to solve a problem I do not see. I consider it as disrespect for efforts of volunteers. If organizers have addressed for the help and have invited to teamwork thereby have incurred responsibility. Here above wrote that this project not is absolutely vital thing for volunteers it is true, but council to be switched to the alternative project I consider incorrect, belittling value of efforts of volunteers. Working in the project as the volunteer, I consider myself have the right to count on the attentive relation to efficiency of my work timely informing on an essence of problems and a course of their elimination. |

Uploads, Reporting, and downloads have had scheduling problems since last Sunday afternoon. Admins are aware of the situation and are working on it. Uploads and reporting ARE going through exteremely slow but are moving. So patience is the watchword at this time.AP workunits are scarcer than hen's teeth but mb stuff is available. |
