I'm not worried just message was a bit off... Comms failed but Internet access ok? ;-) Seen worse offlines in past when servers got moved around etc. Been running Seti@Home longer than I care to remember... SETI@home member since 15 Nov 1999 SETI@home classic workunits 13,301 SETI@home classic CPU time 62,673 hours etc. Hope you guys can resolve it without too much hassle. Shame I can't post you a coffee/coke... |

Exactly - a bit of patience. If you are running short or have run out of WU's there are plenty of other projects out there you could crunch for while this minor hiccup is sorted. |

Hello, If I included/understood well by the means of the Systran translator, the clim St broken down and the damage are not too hard! I hope that you will be able to repair and that the university will help you… Is Seti compatible with the application optimized SSE4.1? Thank you for your work and hopes like all, to find a signal finally…. having bought a PC HP i7 860 with a chart nvidia gtx 260 to be able brought computing power finally… Alliance Francophone |

Finally got the last few of my uploades in and got 15 GPU tasks to give me something to play with. No CPU tasks yet but at least something is moving. Boris61, if you mean the Lunatic's optimized apps, then yes it will work on SETI if your computer has SSE4.1 instruction set. Looks like you got yourself a screaming machine. OK, just got 22 WUs for my CPU to crunch on. Everything's happy again now. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

Well, after due consideration, and the seeming lack of interest from the seti staff to resolve or even engage with contributor's about what is (or not!) happening, I'm ceasing my contribution to this project. IMHO, I think a very significant issue needs to be addressed by the project, and I'd suggest that contributor's might want to ponder this, too, in that I find it odd that in Matt's post at the start of this thread, there is mention about "...Eric's hydrogen survey server..." issues and its (miraclulous) recovery. Clearly, this server is not doing seti project work but by admission, it sits in the same closet as the seti servers, radiating heat, consuming power, network bandwidth and human resource - The issues aren't all down to seti hardware and colatteral infrastructure, clearly. This is the issue for me, in that it highlights the less than 100% focus that I think should apply, especially given the project's mission statement and the very significant number of active client contributor's attracted by that vision (some 9,500 pretty much right now, if the stats on the Server Status page are credible, at this time) and that the seti project clearly "enjoy's". The contribution is not meant to be an incendary - I'm just writing about how I see where this project seems to have found itself. For those that will stay with the project, I truly wish you the outcome you seek. |

Bye. I mean, It's above freezing here and I don't need seven old heater boxes running to keep my apartment warm, so I'm not really worried. If it get's colder, I can always switch back to my second favorite project for a while.(Or turn the thermostat above 5C.) That's kinda why they developed BOINC, isn't it? Oh wait... That's six old boxes. I cleaned one up and donated it to a friend so she could access her Facebook account without going over to her mom's. Hmm... Maybe I should have left BOINC running on it... Oh well... Too late now. Been searching almost seven years here... |

Well, after due consideration, and the seeming lack of interest from the seti staff to resolve or even engage with contributor's about what is (or not!) happening, I'm ceasing my contribution to this project. Dude....get a grip. For one who has been involved with the project as long as you have, you should be well versed in Seti's ups and downs by now. And know that they always bounce back. How can you be offended that Seti is not the only science project the Eric is involved in? He does have more scientific pursuits to be involved with than just babysitting the server closet. If you wish to leave, that is your personal choice. Just don't do it for the wrong reasons please. Stick around, the crunching is fine. Well, after due consideration, and the seeming lack of interest from the seti staff to resolve or even engage with contributor's about what is (or not!) happening, I'm ceasing my contribution to this project. The SETI "staff" is four people. Two of them have duties outside of SETI@Home. We as participants have a choice: we can demand that those few people take time away from working on issues to talk to us, or we can let them work, and we'll see the results of their efforts when they show up. Right now, I doubt there is much they can say that isn't already being said by some of the keener observers out here in cruncher-land. Oh, yeah, almost forgot. I believe the Hydrogen Survey is funded. SETI@Home isn't. I'm sure it "pays" for access to data in some tangible way. |

Well, after due consideration, and the seeming lack of interest from the seti staff to resolve or even engage with contributor's about what is (or not!) happening, I'm ceasing my contribution to this project. I say again, in the words of Douglas Adams, don't panic. The opportunity for average citizens to actively participate in a project like SETI@home at all is incredible enough by itself. The fact that they've managed to keep it going for over a decade with such a small staff and limited resources is nothing short of miraculous. Let's keep things in perspective, shall we? Instead of dropping SETI@home altogether, why not take advantage of the opportunity to catch up on some other projects? It's not like you're going to lose any ground on other SETI@home participants by letting BOINC crunch something else for a little while. We're all in the same boat here. "That's no moon. It's a space station." -Obi-Wan Kenobi ...If there's a Galactic Empire out there with a Death Star that's about to destroy us all, SETI will find it. |

Any chance we could get a heads up like we used to sometimes? The connectivity problem noted yesterday turned out to be one of our switches and not the router. We swapped in a replacement switch today and connectivity was restored. 27 Nov 2009 0:00:00 UTC · Comment -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our router, which connects all of our data servers to the Internet, is down. Until we resolve this, the project is unable to send out work or receive results. 26 Nov 2009 0:00:00 UTC Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound! |

Well, after due consideration, and the seeming lack of interest from the seti staff to resolve or even engage with contributor's about what is (or not!) happening, I'm ceasing my contribution to this project. DNA also wrote about planet where most of the people were unhappy for pretty much of the time. He wrote that most of the suggested solutions were largely concerned with "the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green bits of paper that were unhappy." The work isn't moving, but it isn't unhappy about it. |

Looks like the problem is solved for now for most people. Has there been a post-mortem and if so what was the result? |

Oh, yeah, almost forgot. I believe the Hydrogen Survey is funded. SETI@Home isn't. I'm sure it "pays" for access to data in some tangible way. Actually I thought the Hydrogen Survey is the thing that pays Arecibo to record the data that SETI@Home uses. In any case the data is multi-purposed. |

These guys are doing their best with limited funds. I think the besy way to help them beside giving your computer time is to do some donation. i'm conserned that in the server status pages everything is green. SO i'm suspecting a bandwith problem due to all the reconnection occuring... I got all my Wu uploaded.... i now just wait for the scheduler to report them. |
