May I vote to just save some money? Anyway... judging by Intel's latest silicon cadence model, it won't be long until i7's are obsolete. But, if I had to vote, it would be ASUS. Never had a problem with a mobo from them.

Tick... Tock...

Reading back part of the thread, why are you ordering a separate I/O shield? Last time I checked they are included with the mobo.

Other than make all the holes fill what does an I/O shield do? Is it necessary?

I'd vote for the Asus board. It, or one of the related P7P55D boards, is one I was considering before I bought the Gigabyte board for my HTPC. An option for your wireless network could be to get a USB wireless adapter, or a wireless bridge. Then the boards slots would be irrelevant.

Another option is just to wait for newer cheaper things if you are not planning to get things like the CPU till Nov.

Ok, I have a usb SuperG(108Mbps) wireless adapter, I'll just load a driver for It in XP x64. Oh and I think I'll be buying the Asrock or the Asus, I'm so torn... As the way the Asrock handles the 3rd and 4th express slots is nice(4x each if both are filled and 8x if the one nearest the blue slot is filled by itself, The blue slot stays at 16x on this motherboard, Then there's the sata ports(which may not matter), The Asus has 1 more usb port on the back than the Asrock, The price is not too far a part @ $7.63 of course, But a less expensive I/O Shield does cut that by $7.52, So the actual difference is actually $0.11 which is not all that much. So does anyone have either one?

Well at new egg "ASUS P7P55D PRO LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail 10% off with promo code MBTENOFF, ends 1/31"
The new one is priced at $169.99 with free shipping. With 10% off in my cart it comes to $152.99 not including NJ tax.

I think you might have misread something on the Asrock site or manual.
2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (Single at x16 or Dual at x8/x8 mode)
1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot (at x4 mode, 2.5GT/s)
1 x PCI Express 2.0 x1 slot (2.5GT/s)

For i5 & i7-800 CPUs the 16 lanes of PCIe for graphics come from a controller on the CPU not though the P55.

I assume you know I/O means Input/Output to start :). It's a little plate that is (usually) included with the motherboard to be mounted between the I/O hole in your case and the motherboard. It can be useful in dusty environments and if you are looking for aesthetics (which is nearly always me).

Next case I want is the NZXT M59...

Boy. I love the looks on that.

Yes It is, It helps keep as much dust out as possible and It's an RF shield too.

Never bothered to get one as dust isn't a big problem in the Rainy State. As far as it being an RF shield well I guess I would need to put my side covers back on....Just curious so I did a search, the ones I had on the wall never had them either.

The HAF-932 is 22"Hx9"W and the covers there are designed with 8" case sizes in mind, So the Magnetic filters are the only real answer and they are washable too and they don't obstruct the optical drives either.

Are you absolutely sure you need some dust protection? Does a can of compressed air not do the job when you need it?

That wouldn't cover the top or the bottom as there is an intake and exhaust there as the HAF stands for High Air Flow(the exhaust at the top also sucks dust in), So It would be wholly filter I guess. ;)

OK... 2 t-shirts. :D

Mediums seem to be ok for a mid tower. Might need to go to large t-shirt for a larger case tho.
Dust filter 1, Dust filter 2, Dust filter 3, Dust filter 4
Case is 17Hx8.5Wx20.5D
EDIT: Fixed the links to the picks. Instead of them all points to the same image.

This is the HAF-932 here, It's a Full Tower:
22"Hx9"Wx21.5"D No Wheels
23"Hx9"Wx21.5"D w/Wheels

Might need a large. The length of the shirts isn't really an issue. The 2nd one I put over it hang down a bit. You can sorta see this in the 2th image, now that I've fixed the links...

Hi, dust or no dust, I'de choose ASUS, also not familiar with DFI (expensive), Asrock does have a good name.
All the boards mentioned, uses the P55 chipset.
How about the memory & speed?

Oh and I think I'll get the Asus P7P55D Pro, As It seems to be quite the performer, Mark eat Yer heart out, Some of these overclocks do real well and some arrr on air and some on water. :D

Chippies keep getting faster all the time...
The P55 chipset looks like it may be a real winner.

But don't forget that in most cases the fastest OC still stable enough for a bench run will never be sustainable with all cores loaded crunching opti Seti.

Good luck with it.

Out of interest why settle on the 1156 pin boards? The yet to be released i7 980x (also dubbed the i9) is a LGA1366 chip.
