EVGA has created a Monster dual socket LGA1366 X58 type motherboard, Some have noted It probably will use Xeon type cpus. http://www.hardocp.com/news/2010/01/05/evga_dual_lga1366_motherboard_at_ces_2010 The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Could you still run Windows 7 and use it as a desktop? Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound! |

I have been looking for a high-perf board to use as a server/SETI box at work. You can't use Core i7's in this, since they only support single socket motherboards. Anyone buying this will have to buy the Nehalem Xeon's, which are in the thousands. And then there is the cost of the board... And then what form factor does it use? Obviously not ATX. Oh - and by the way SJ... I think this is actually a type LGA1567 board, which is what the Nehalem Xeon's use. - Luke. |

Could you still run Windows 7 and use it as a desktop? I don't see why not, But You'll need a case like the HAF-932 or at least one that can handle an E-ATX motherboard, Oh and the slots? All pci-e 16x courtesy of 2 NF200 chips, Oh and did I say You'd need a case like the HAF-932? There's heat to be expelled and You'll need DEMCiflex magnetic air filters too as the case has no filters anywhere, But lots of air flow. Actually EVGA says It's LGA1366, Not 1567, As to cpus they'll be Xeons I'd think, Expensive? We'll see. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

SJ, you're right. After a little researching... LGA1156 socket is used by Core i5 xxx series & Core i7 8xx series LGA1366 socket is used by the Core i7 9xx & the Xeon 55xx series, however only the Xeon 55xx's will be able to take advantage of this board, since the Core i7 is only single socket compatible. LGA1567 socket will be exclusively for the future multi-core Xeon range. - Luke. |

If you compare the prices of the I7 to the same process in Xeon form you will find they are near the same price. The i7-950 & Xeon W3550 are in the $550-600 range. The higher end Xeons are comparable in price to the Extreme edition of i7's. The I7-975 & Xeon W3580 are in the $950-$1050 range. If you wanted to buy a board today with dual socket 1366 & several PCIe x16 slots for GPU computing. Then you might want to look at the Super Micro X8DTG-QF or the X8DTH-i. They run about $500-$600. The big thrill is the hope that we can use Non-ECC DDR3 ram in this board. ECC is not needed in the enthusiast role which will allow us to get more bang for the buck at checkout! The big thrill is the hope that we can use Non-ECC DDR3 ram in this board. If they are using the 5520 chipset it doesn't require ECC, but then you are limited to something like 12 or 24GB of ram. The board makers always have that option to require ECC though. :( SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

From what little I've read, Near each cpu is an 8 pin and a 6 pin power socket, I don't know if their pci-e connectors or what, But It's been said that a minimum of a 1200w psu might be prudent, I was thinking along the lines of the Enermax 1250w Galaxy psu Myself, Imagine this motherboard with 2 Gulftown type cpus 12 cores and I think 24 threads. I just enhanced the picture a bit to see the motherboard better, It does have an 8pin and a 6pin for each cpu and next to the top pci-e slot there is also a 6pin socket, Oh geeze, It's power supply upgrade time for anyone wanting to use this beasty. According to this website here "EVGA promises "Classified-grade" overclocking features." Someone also mentioned the Thermaltake Armor+ as an Ideal or nearly ideal case for this motherboard as It does have 10 pci-e expansion slots in the back and It can hold a smaller E-ATX motherboard(As this motherboard is bigger than any E-ATX motherboard).
