Hello,

yesterday I updated from BOINC 6.6.36 to 6.10.18 because an other project (PrimGrid) needs a version 6.10.xx to play with CUDA.

Using 6.6.36 was good enough for my CUDA graphics NVidea GTX 280 to crunch WU's for SETI.

But now, after the update, BOINC refuses to find my CUDA device:
29.12.2009 22:38:51 No usable GPUs found
29.12.2009 22:38:51 SETI@home Application uses missing NVIDIA GPU

So, is this a known problem ? Because I found no thread about it ?!?!?

You may need to update your nvidia Drivers. IIRC BOINC 6.10.XX requires a minimum driver level that escapes me at this time

BOINC message 28601:

The new Nvidia API that BOINC 6.10 uses has a minimum driver set of CUDA 2.2, 185.85.

If your present drivers are below this version, update first.
If your present drivers are below this and they're the last available for your hardware, you cannot update to 6.10; stay at the last 6.6.x version for your OS.

Bernd, well that you updated from V6.6.36 (which have the CUDA BUG) to V6.10.18 .

I would recommend to update to nVIDIA_driver_190.x if only for CUDA.
191.x don't show CUDA speed up. 195.x showed slowdown.

If you are also a gamer, you should maybe take/test the newest one.

Also I would recommend to install optimized applications for SETI@home.
Small look in my -> <- (quick instruction).
Double RAC for your CPU, also higher RAC for your GPU because of VLARkill which delete < 0.12x AR WUs which would make sluggish your PC.

OMG Sutaru Tsureku, I just read your profile and downloaded cuda 2.3 (I had lunatics already installed) and it cut the time on the gpu crunching by more than half.
My 8800 GTX is doing VHAR WU's in a little less than 5 min as opposed to 11 min with the old cuda dll's.
You just becomed my new best friend. Hopefully i can have a copetitive RAC now with my budget cruncher :)
Thanks and Happy New Year!

Thank you for the welcome.
I was reading the forum for some time now and I really got some good tips so I decided to pay credit where credit is due :)

Thanks again

Hello again,

thanks a lot for all the answers.

After some de-/ install breakdowns I recovered the hole system, and for now it is crunching well again.
(NVidea ver. 191.xx refuses to work properly... I don't know why, but 195.xx is working fine :-))

So being back to routine....

Best wishes for the next year.....
