SETI's *nix server's get hacked.

OzzFan, you're showing off your Microsoft extreme fan-boi-ism...

Why not just post the link to the one pertinent post and save everyone's time on a silly wild goose chase?

Summary: No *nix wasn't hacked. Looks like someone exploited some sloppy developer's php code and lax website security. In other words, an example of an annoying graffiti attack on just the website.

I'm sure the s@h people will have tightened things up.

Meanwhile, what a horrid mess with the last three months of Microsoft critical updates that even includes a 17-years-old exploit... But that's for another thread.

Time for me to have a rant. I just stumbled on this BS from MacLife, another utterly biased, fanboy magazine run by a bunch of Steve Jobs worshiping, arrogant jerks.

Maclife: 25 Reasons Why Non-Mac Users Should Shut Their Damn Pie-Holes

1. Big clunky, cumbersome towers stashed under the desk are so ʼ90s.

So, then why does Apple in their infinite wisdom continue to sell the Mac Pro? And you obviously haven't heard of form factors!

2. Not to mention just UGLY UGLY UGLY!

Yeah, because a mono tonally white colored MacBook just looks so 'you'. I can design MY computer to MY specifications, a window, no window, a white case, a black case.

3. No, turning their machines into Satanʼs spawn (or any other case mod they can think of) does NOT make a PC tower any less UGLY.

Wow, to maximize the length of this list you put one reason in 2 different bulletpoints!!!

4. Satanʼs spawn canʼt protect from viruses... the majority of which are written for PCs.

Never, ever had one virus on Vista or 7. Get a good firewall and virus scanner (most of which are free!) and you're set forever.

5. Four words: Blue Screen Of Death!

Lets say this, I have only once experienced a BSOD on a stock (it means the CPU and RAM are running at normal settings, to complicated for a Mac fanboy to understand) machine. The rest (about 500) are me fiddling around with clock speeds on my i7.
And you're stuck with a little f****** beach-ball.

6. They need to wake up and join the new millennium - Macs run on Intel processors just like PCs... except better.

PowerPC say what??? Your finally on Intel?! Geez, that took a while. PC users are still 1 years ahead. Do you know what a 'Core i7' is?

7. Do they really like to watch their computers reboot that much?

What's a reboot?

8. Cheaper... riiiiight... and how much do they spend on getting that thing fixed and/or upgraded?

I could build a desktop cheaper and powerful than your CrapBooks. Fixed? What's going to break? You do realise PC's and Macs are all computers? They all run on the same hardware?

9. They gotta get an account with Terminix to deal with all those bugs in their apps! Hyuk yuk yuk!

Bugs? See this! Oh, that's right! You blame it on Adobe!

10. “Plays For Sure”... doesnʼt really play, for sure.

Yeah, since you've got really good at Minesweeper.

11. Who wants to be bothered with arcane details like - what I/O port a peripheral is assigned to? When it comes to plug-and-play, Macs are the real deal!

Play what, exactly??? Your game range is utterly pathetic!

12. Weʼve got more important things to do than play games all day.

Contradictory of point 11. Too busy making your spreadsheets in iWorks.

13. They think they're special just because they have more USB ports. Jerks.

Oh, that's right, since 1 USB on the MacBook Air is going to cut it for a mouse, an iPhone, an iPod, and a flash drive.

14. They never invite us to their LAN parties... WELL, SCREW LAN PARTIES! WE DONʼT WANT TO SOCIALIZE ON YOUR LOCAL AREA NETWORK ANYWAY!

Mac fanboys socialize?

15. Weʼve got better friends.

Who? Stevie Pie Jobs and his new liver that he probably stole of some other poor dieing patient?

16. Almost every show on TV uses an iPhone. When's the last time Windows Mobile solved a CSI case?

Yeah, everything you see in CSI is real, aye?

17. Envy is one of the seven deadly sins you know.

Contradicting point 13. Tut tut.

18. PC stands for “politically correct”, which the classic American film, PCU taught us is a lame, lame concept.

A monkey with ADHD knows that PC actually stands for Personal Computer, I shall now refer to "Macs" (which is actually "scam" backwards, BTW) as SJPC - Steve Jobs Personal Computer.

19. Not only are the products better, Apple has better ads than PCs too.

Because ads really affect the quality of the software! I see the connection!

20. Hundreds waited in line for the Mac OS X Leopard release. Windows Vista line... not so long.

And yet, for some unknown reason, Windows has a larger market share!!!

21. PC users still think the Mac mouse has only one button.

It has no buttons. A single-celled organism could master the Magic Mouse faster than you could. Jerk.

22. Speaking of mice... PC users might want to take a second and thank the success of the Macintosh for the one theyʼve got in their hands today. Yeah, you're welcome.

What? My Razer Diamondback 3G Gaming Mouse? I don't see you praising the inventor of the wheel everytime you hop into your car!
And don't forget Microsoft saved your sorry asses back in the 90s.

23. Gadgets are just Widget rip-offs. Do we have to think of everything for PCs to copy?

So if it's a copy, why doesn't Apple sue?

24. They get excited over “expandability” and “upgradeablility” - well, I hate to tell yaʼ, but most modern day Macs donʼt need any upgrade of their own. In fact, Macs have a longer computing life than most PCs. Just ask Robbie about the eight-year old G4 he uses at home to video edit with. When's the last time you saw an eight-year old PC do anything except crash?

A few minutes ago, my 8 year old PC is happily crunching SETI@home.

25. The Eternal Shame of Windows Vista: ʻNuff said.

Mac OS 9. That is all.

What a bunch of Windows bashing jerks.

An interesting thread. I am not an IT expert, just a normal guy, who uses a computer at work (Windows PC) and at home (Mac). Until recently I had always had a Windows PC at home too.

Having used both, but at a basic level - spreadsheets, documents, internet, e-mails etc. hardly high end usage, but probably what 99% of people use them for, I find that both are okay for everyday use. They both have little quirks and different advantages.

I don't really see why folk are getting so hot and bothered.

Regards to all (and please keep arguing - it is sometimes instructive)

Totally agree. Each camp likes to compare their hot new today machine with the other sides 10 year old machine and stomp their feet and scream we are better.

Anyone ever purchased an iPhone?

Yep me, a month ago. Love it to bits. The most fanstic gadget I have ever owned, cannot believe what I can do with it.

Could there possibly be a more ridiculous, communist, locked-in phone available?

Ahh, yes. I noticed that more recently. The locked in restriction sure is stupid if I might say so, and I'm going to look into the jailbreaking options.

Considering the fact that Apple has just about banned Flash from all of it's touch based products (iPod touch, iPhone, iPad), I think the best option for Adobe is to simply pull ALL Flash support from every single Mac remaining. Big gaping white holes in the middle of most Safari pages ought to do it.

supposedly ApPlE is tossing what little marketshare and weight it has into HMTL5 over flash Jobs apparently thinks HTML5 is the wave of the future yet his toys are the only ones that use it. Other OSes and browsers don't even support HTML5 so in general its a pointless change by Apple as long as they are the only ones changing to it. The Apple folks will get nice white blocks where they should see video and they will have nice videos on the few websites that actually use HTML5. I'd bet most pages are Apple or apple related in nature. Good luck Jobs may you have a another insane thought and create more useless crap

Looks like the 'Apple hates Microsoft' ads have come to an end:

Say Goodbye to the "I'm a Mac/I'm a PC" Ads!

All very silly!

And if you're stuck with an iPad but just must have your Microsoft fix (or you can't jail-break your Microsoft lock-in), here's a very Geekie fix:

Windows 95 Running On the iPad

All good fun!
