Another tribute...for our current and fallen.....from the studio rather than the field........

Star Spangled Chicks.......

They are from the South.......and they do shine like the gold found there.

Embrace them........

It would be so easy to say that I would have served it called.........
I was just in the right age that is never happened.
But that does not mean I would not have.........

Another version.........You gotta be KID-ding........who ARE these gurls, and who raised them right????????
The Dixie Chickettes.....or what? I cry now. Again.....sorry folks......

...

For Niko and his service brothers........
Travelling soldier.......

This makes me cry every time......I would hope that you and our brothers forgave her past comment. She was well intentioned, did not diss you, and said something that the press overloaded. The chicks love our servicemen too. They do. As do I...

And they did one of the most inspiring versions of our national anthem ever....
Dixies do Washington.....

Meow, my friend and guardian. Hope you forgive me for being so forward.

You are indeed a friend, Niko.

Thank you Mark!

Travelling Soldier is one of my favorites by them. Thanks again!

Oh gawd........thank you.........

Glad I did not step on another's toes......with so many in the forums from here and wide, sometimes it's had to say the right thing.
But, this project and forum is based in the good ol' USA.......so I thought it was best to give you my honor and thanks.

Thank you for accepting it. Twice offered. Meow.

It's true.........

Listen to this........
This is the true story of the song....Possibly the only recorded version of her....As recorded by none other than Pete Seeger himself by her side.

The song.......priceless.

You judge, not my call.

Cotton's Train

That's A1 Mark. Thanks for digging it up.

Didn't realize Elizabeth Cotten played the guitar with the strings reversed! She plays using primarily her thumb and index finger like Doc Watson.

I learned that tune years ago from the first edition of this book by Happy Traum.

That vice is intended for a drill press. It allows for the precise positioning of a work piece under the drill.

I am about ready to quit posting these things.......
'Cuz I get no response at all.........

I really thought that I would get some response from a few on these boards who would appreciate the background on some tunes........

If not........I'll just quit sharing, I guess. If that's what you want.....
I search youtube and find things that surprise me.....even at 52 years of age.

And I wanna share them........I understand now..........DON'T....'cuz nobody gives a rat's ass anyway. I got it. Thanks for informing me.

I suppose it's wrong of me to suppose that any body else has my interests.

My bad.......won't do it again..........for a while at least.

Back to my song of the week........
Sorry There is not a version by PPM that I can fine on youtube.

The lyrics are starkly different, if not as dark. Apparently 'freight train' denotes the passage to the other world........

This version is done in the 3rd person....asking about another...

'Just bury him, down at the end of old Chestnut street.....poplars at his head and feet....tell him he's gone to sleep."

PPM's version goes something like this.......in the first person.

'When I die, please bury me deep, down at the end of old Beekler street.
SO I can hear old number 9, as she rolls down the line.

Hmm.........I gotta recount Cotton's lyrics, if there are some. But she gave the tune to us for all time.

Yeah, it's me again.

The lost soul that sings all the songs that nobody else wants to hear anymore.
Asks all the questions that nobody wants to answer anymore.
Gives all the answers than nobody wants to hear.
Creates discord that nobody wants to deal with.
Seems sometimes to be everywhere but here.

Yes, it's me again.

The voice of God....who's been forgotten.
The voice of kitties who cannot speak.
The voice of those long ago downtrodden,
the voice of the strong as well as the weak.

I speak of truth and sometimes trouble.
Of hope and love and dreams and such.
Of things I would have hoped to know young.
Of things I know I'll never touch.

Of those I've loved who had to leave me.
Of those who swore they'd always stay.
But had for one reason or another
had to lie and go away.

Of those I know, now here and present,
of those who somehow slipped away.
They are all still here locked in my mind.
So that's why I sometimes go astray.

Yes, my love, I'll never leave you....
words from only one who loves you true.
But she did so many years gone.
I still do not have a clue.

But another I do have hers
and love me she does,
And I know that know matter what
I do, somehow it's me she loves.

So back to the question,
as the song was sung?
Where have all the flowers gone?
To YOU.....each and every one.

You see, Mary and the flowers only die
if you and I just let them.
And don't tell others what we know.
That we will never forget them.

This simple poem is all I have
to offer up to those
who think they're better than us all.
Who think they've better prose.

And that's mostly all they have.......
Except for yours and mine.
The taxes that we pay.
They think that's mighty fine.

So we pay them, and then they go
to take what we have given
to conscript more to to continue killing
those who still are living.

No, I do not believe in such,
and still my taxes pay.
But some day soon, as he would have it...
In a pauper's grave I'll lay.
