Whether to have Weather or not to have Weather, Probably depends on where one is as to what is going on or not...

Omaha NE Daily Forecast 01/11/2009
Today: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 27.

~HEAT WAVE!~

I'm putting on my shorts, grabbing the Frisbee, and heading to the park... that is if I can find the park under all the snow. Of course now with a week or so of at or above freezing temperatures on the way, they are starting to worry about flooding when all the snow starts melting.

I'm sorry to say this, But 27F? Eek! Bundled up sure, Shorts? In Winter? Are U nutz?

If Ya want a heatwave, I'm sure Palm Springs CA(that's the Low Desert, I live in the High Desert) or almost anywhere in Southern California will do, As Yesterday the temp was 66°F(19°C) and mostly sunny as We had some high clouds all day, Oxnard(near the coast) was 75°F/24°C Yesterday and was the high for the state(unusual too). :D

Special news flash for our UK weather freaks:

We have had an ITV film crew here in "our" London for the last few days. Apparently they are working on a special presentation on how "this" London deals with cold weather and a few meters of snow each year, in comparison to how "the original" London is handling it this year. Look for a TV special soon.

They didn't ask me, but I could have told them that switching from white wine to red wine is essential for winter survival here on the frontier. That, plus a snow blower, a healthy son to run it, and a full gas can.

Added in an edit: local weather experts are saying the European winter this year is a result of a shift in the Gulfstream path, and it may be permanent! In other words, what you got this year could be your future.

It will be interesting to see how they dress that up on TV then as London (UK) has hardly had any snow - and rarely does as it's a great big over warm urban heat island. Any snow that does fall there rapidly melts.

Meanwhile...other side of the UK - 1 week after the snow fell the roads still haven't been cleared! Luckily we've had a bit of a thaw today - and even more luckily we should be back to a more seasonal 5-7C by the end of the week.

Also - with regards the shift in the Gulf Stream...Nonsense! A couple of cold Winters in 30 years does not make a mini ice age!

edit - I have no snow blower. The council have no snow ploughs. The local car dealers don't sell Winter tyres or Snow Chains. Different world, isn't it?

Dull, Grey, Overcast, boring Southern Ontario weather here. Glad to see Andy's weather is warming up though and I hope Western Canada cools down again. Would hate to see the monies that were diverted to the Olympics go to waste.

Warm, wet weather causes shutdown of Cypress Mountain

Officials are hoping to preserve snowboarding and freestyle courses

January 14, 2010

Olympic officials who have been dreaming of a white Winter Games are instead being met with a brown, muddy nightmare as unseasonably warm weather, heavy rain, and lack of snow forced them to close the mountain where next month's snowboarding and freestyle skiing events will be held.

Vancouver's Olympic organizing committee announced Wednesday that in a bid to preserve existing snow and protect the condition of the alpine courses, Cypress Mountain will be shut down to the public 2 1/2 weeks earlier than expected.

Temperatures hit 11C Wednesday in Vancouver and 4C up on the mountain.

Every now and again Mother Nature Likes to put on a display of beauty that is hard to duplicate. We had a morning of that freezing fog just south of here as I drove home from about 2 hrs south of me through the freezing fog and when the sun broke through it left some jaw dropping views that just dont seem to be caught on camera, but I tried ...

And this one I pulled over for but the shoulder wasnt as wide as it looked! had to walk back to a small town and wake up the tow truck driver who wasn't sleeping but still partying from the night before! LOL. It made for an interesting sunday morning to say the least!
