Message 955021 - Posted: 15 Dec 2009, 17:14:34 UTC - in response to Message 954982.

I don't think it really bothers anyone but gives lots to talk about...LOL

It bothers me, I want my credit now!! :-)

Seriously though, a lot of the people with a lot of work units sitting on their machines only connect to the internet every so many days. When they do connect they dump a bunch of WUs and pick up a bunch more. If you happen to look in on them near the end of this cycle it may look like they have gone missing. If they have a very fast machine they need to have a lot of WUs to keep them busy in between the times they connect.

One thing everyone seems to forget is that the signals we are working on are lightyears old. There is no big hurry to get anything done as the information isn't going anywhere. It will be there when it gets there.

Thank you all for the replies. I think I understand better now. I only noticed cause I got a bunch of messages saying no tasks avail and then noticed that so many of the pending validations were with computers with lots and lots of jobs "in process"

So one more question. Should I find I need to have a few more jobs in my queue to handle times of outages how would I do it? Based on my computer performance I don't think I would need more than 15 on "ready to start" status to handle reasonable outages. How would I set that up?

Hi Vicki...
If you want to hold a larger cache to keep your computer busy through the outrages, go to Your Account > Computing Preferences > Edit Preferences > and change "Maintain enough additional work for x days" to a higher number. 3 to 5 days is probably enough.

Hope it helps.

- Luke.

My pending is 6,900 or about 30% or my total.

BTW, I see that NEZ has dropped to #123 in the standings. His RAC is down to 33,000.

Be cool if he landed a new job and they let him run again for the publicity...

EDIT: Intel should sponsor him....

Oh good luck on that, He probably has lots of competition for a job now. Just as I would, If I were able to, Which will probably keep Me here in My hole.

That would be cool! Now that Tiger is castrated, sponsors will be looking for new stars.

I guess we'll see in a few months if NEZ is crunching at home with this account or if he's abandoned it.

It'll be a while before MikeC passes NEZ's Total Credit amount if ever. Depending on his o/s pending, any bets on NEZ hitting 600,000,000?

Well, those points belong to HUSD ;-) That said, the default Stats are more in the spirit of "What have you done for us lately," hence the default RAC sort order.

Anybody got the full letter Nez sent to the Press? ABC15 removed it before I got a look.

Nope, here is the link to the ABC15 article which used to have a link to Ned's letter (a number of the reader comments make reference to it as well).

[Edit: oh, abc15 gets the award for the least technically savvy video too -- see link near top, it takes a moment to stream]

Well, it looks like they have no clue how S@H works. Poorly written article IMHO.
S@H does not 'track' aliens. 'Track' implies we have already found ETI. It is the search for ETI.

I seem to have missed something, but can't find what I have missed. I know curiosity killed the kitties, but can someone tell me where the owner of this thread is?

There is a small asteroid halfway between the Sun and Mercury called the "Time Out Asteroid." Whenever a valued greenstar gets a bit too lippy, they are sent to the Asteroid along with all their machines (so they can keep crunching) for a non-geologic period of time. Of course, no one is allowed to talk about it, but that pretty much sums it up.

I wonder how much for Mark to post bail so he would be able to be 'home' for Christmas - I'd be willing to put up a $20 bail bond to S@H donations?

I'll bet the Seti Police would want $10,000, given how many times he's jumped bail. :-)
