I believe it should read "ipconfig /flushdns" and you have to enter it in a command window (without quotes).

Pull up a RUN command window.... then copy and paste into that small window.... > ipconfig /flushdns < ...... just the words......and click OK. Then close down and re-run BOINC. If it doesn't work, do it again and try the ipconfig /flushdns two or three times before closing down and restarting BOINC.

I DONATE money to SETI@home.... DO YOU?

I'm just slowly BOINC'ing along.

under Vista you have to run the command line thing as administrator to execute the ipconfig /flushdns command (the cmd.exe, not sure how its name is in English windows, the German name of that tool is roughly translated "input request" but I bet thats not the correct name. Its found under all programs>accesories). Now everythings fine.

This is a well way for to get the DL working.

[Message 950653]

But, in some days if the Berkeley crew looked to the prob - I guess this won't longer work. So you need to delete this two IPs again out of the hosts file.

Message 951035 - Posted: 30 Nov 2009, 8:39:19 UTC

DNS flushing worked on a couple of my PCs, one just refused to obey orders, one sorted itself out with just a stop/start BOINC cycle, one I just rebooted, and the other was in the "Well if it does, it does" pile, so I left it overnight, and this morning its working. At first I didn't think there was a "global" problem, because most of my PCs suffered from the local power cuts and internet connection faults that started sometime on Friday and continued until Sunday afternoon - there's no point in looking for problems when the power is going off frequently and computers, network kit and so on following very rapidly. The UPS batteries were hammered by the first and outs and hadn't recovered enough to keep things alive when the third came along......

I really hope Matt et-al had a good, and much deserved break, and that the errant behaviour of the servers and network gear at their end didn't interrupt their festivities.

For windows based computers....this worked for me.
shut down boinc
open the run... box and start a command window (cmd)
type exit
cmd prompt will now be in your recent tasks list
right click on this item (cmd prompt) and run as administrator
command window will come up
typo in "ipconfig /flushdns" without the quotes
hit enter
type exit hit enter
restart boinc

this worked for me

I took a similar tact. I created a CMD shortcut which I could run as administrator. The ipconfig/flushdns command worked like a charm

New problem this morning. Two P4 machines a 3.0 HT and a 3.8 HT both w/4GB RAM. Windows Seti versions 6.6.38 & 6.10.17 running tasks in the 08 and 16 name series under "Time To Completion" show 100 to + 200 hours. Normal times for these machines are in the 4 to 8 hour range. All other computers with a variety of CPUs and cores seem normal. These are not Astropulse tasks. What gives? I aborted several but new downloads in these series still show excessive run times.

Most all the WUs I have are in those ranges and they are showing normal "to completion" times. 08no06 and 16no06 series. I'm also running 6.10.17 on a Celeron dual core. Have you run one to see how long they actually run?

Message 951154 - Posted: 30 Nov 2009, 19:00:25 UTC - in response to Message 951128.

The times are falling off sharply. One that said it would run 113 hours has run
2:40 and only says it needs another 34 hours and that its 24% done. I'll have to wait and see. I have 2 other hyper threading P4s and they give normal times. The only thing different with the 2 in question is that they are also running Cuda applications................

Thanks,

Lee Gresham

Message 951280 - Posted: 1 Dec 2009, 5:06:58 UTC - in response to Message 950668.

Stopped Boinc, ran "ipconfig /flushdns" on my Windows 7 Professional computer then restarted Boinc. Files were downloaded and processing started.

Thanks for the "hint" ;-)

Same problem as Phoenixfire1965 (no work for several days). I'm running on a Mac Pro. Should I be doing something or is this just a case of waiting for a fix?
