Oh well, we tried. We thought we would just have to put some extra minutes monitoring the data pipeline over the weekend (after wasting a lot of time bringing up many broken files), which wouldn't have been too bad, but...

Then bambi crashed last night - it's our secondary science database server but also manage a lot of the data pipeline stuff. I happened to be free so I drove up to the lab around 10:30pm and rebooted it. After that, the pipeline zipped right along.

That is... until 11pm when the router up and died. Or something along the entire Hurricane Electric network path died. We have no idea. Jeff and I fought with it (both remotely) this morning, but we're throwing up our hands at this point and going on holiday.

Might as well have everything fail at once, and at the start of a long holiday weekend. Why not?

At least there'll be a lot of work to give out at the end of it. And who knows? Maybe it'll fix itself. You sure you don't want that Voodoo lady to come dance around the server cabinet? ;-)

Have a good bit of vacation. You've earned it.

I suppose the servers wanted the weekend off too.

Now, enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner.

Have we begun the downward slope of AI?

Now servers want holidays off? What next, vacations?

To those that this means something, happy Thanks-Giving.

The power demands of 100,000's of oven being turned on today must have taken out the power in Hurricane's equipment.

Have a good holiday everyone :)

I guess the servers probably wouldn't appreciate being fed turkey with all the trimmings, but I'm sure you will. Leave the servers be and enjoy the long weekend. We'll still be here on Monday.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Perhaps the man above was trying to offset the increased electric usage of the ovens cooking the family bird with SETI!

All the best,

Well i am using about 1500 watts to complete my units, that must be enough to cook a bird with.
But i got a 10 day buffer so monday is gonna be a buzy day for the download server :P
(not that it actualy takes 10 days to complete more like 4/5 days)

No.. we europeans have no 'Thanksgiving'.

I guess my ~ 1,080 W (PC power consumption) would be enough for to cook some meal in the microwave.

Or to heat the house in winter..

O.K., we have (also) "Erntedankfest", but it's little bit different than yours in the US.

It's more a christian/church celebration and it was for some weeks.

Hello Glenn,

I downloaded automatically an Einstein WU at 15:33 (Paris time) november 27.
Seems that the server works.
See you.
Lionel.

Einstein is giving me work and also QMC@home. I am not getting much from AQUA@home but I am running two climateprediction.net models with very late deadlines so my system is crunching four apps.
