Does that mean Vader is on the fritz again? Has anybody checked exactly which comms are failing? ...
Dunno, but with that entry made, and strapping on my beer goggles, everything looks pretty cool.

(cache filling, happily crunching away, whereas before receiving 0 bytes instead of whatever.)

208.68.240.18 boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu

OK, that worked at least on one of my machines. The other one insist on using 83.175.236.201, but I will not reboot it today for the 3rd time, as it doesn't need those work units before monday or something like that...

208.68.240.18 boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu

Added this to the host file of one of my machines and after a reboot downloads seem to be OK. And then I remembered that I have a DNS-Server in my LAN and deleted the domain bekeley.edu from the cache. That did it, too!

But what's the reason for all of this? Do the servers use DHCP? Don't they have fixed IPs? Or is there more than one server for the same function as some kind of fall back and the DNS is too slow to distribute the change just in time?

Yesterday after the switch change I had to do a ipconfig /flushdns and MOST of the downloads finished successful but some of them don't. Is it true that not all WUs are downloaded from the same server? That would be the only thing that makes sense for me in this situation. There's a similar situation at CPDN where for certain projects result files with odd numbers at the end where uploaded to one server and the ones with even endings to another.

There are 2 download servers, as you can see on the server status page. One just cannot handle all the requests. Does somebody know what is the other IP?

Glad everyone is up and running again.
Still suffering with a lack of broadband here.
My ISP has a major fault with a fibre cable,
I have had no broadband for over a day now.
First time this has happened in a number of years.
Virginmedia have been realy good at getting things going
quickly so this must be major.
Noticed my RAC has fallen conciderable over the last couple of days.

Or rather than the above trick, which 99.999% of users won't be trying (not that there's anything wrong with it), is to just leave it to fix itself... I suppose if there is something we need to all do they would post this on the main page.

The other one is '.13' ... we think that may possibly be the one that's having issues.

still stuck on the left coast. lots of download retries pending/cycling though. Have enough to last a couple of days at most, but will be dry by Monday. Not unexpected, though, due to history around long weekends. cheers.

And the name of it is boinc1.ssl.berkley.edu I assume?

Same name *I think* (boinc2...), for a technical explanation the 'loady balancy thingy' does a 'swippy swappy' on the ip's for the same address. At least that's about as technical as my brain's willing to get around midnight.

Nope, both are boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu as jason_gee said. try a "ping -a" for 208.68.240.18 and 208.68.240.13, but don't ask me for an explanation ;-)

OK, with

208.68.240.18 boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu
208.68.240.13 boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu

in the hosts file, it finally worked, also on my laptop and without reboot, just restarting the boinc service.

Thank you.

Well a lot of good the addresses do Me, I looked for a 'hosts' file and a 'host' file and sure I found lots of files(mostly exe and dll), But nothing else. XP x64 has them somewhere and yes I searched in the system folders and the hidden files too.

Joker, the 'hosts' file is a hidden and 'system protected' file located here in Vista:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Did you turn off the option that 'hides protected operating system' files?

It has to be in a similar or close location in XP. I remember having to change it once in XP when a virus updated the file to prevent my virus program from going to the Symantec site for updates.

Make a copy of it before you update it and after you save it, delete the file's extension from the file name so the file is simply called hosts.

It's the same in (my) XP. And I would recommend notepad instead of wordpad.

Didn't work for me =/

I saw on Server Status Page, all the splitters are not running, could it be that is the cause?

I'm personally refusing to do any manual modifications because it should be handled at the SETI end not mine. I'm just being patient.

I always have that turned off and thanks for the location of the file, Now the addresses are in the file and I did an ipconfig /flushdns after turning Boinc off and after doing all that I retried the downloads and their all done, for the moment at least. I use Avast and notepad+ here.
