Hi there! Been running SETI@Home for the last couple of years on my laptop with Vista installed. Yesterday Vista crashed totally.. Giving me no other possibility than to install what i had lying around (XP). Now.. I downloaded Boinc after the installation and logged in with my usual login/pw.. But all my credits are gone.. Why? Is this normal? I would think that the server would have a record of all credits? Regards John |

Hi there! Accounts are never lost, nor are Credits. I would suggest that you made a mistake (misspelling?) with the email address either now or on the original account as this is the unique identifier of accounts. EDIT: A search of the user names only produce the account you are now using. Boinc V7.2.42 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470 |

Yesterday Vista crashed totally... Are there any traces left of your BOINC data directory (backup copy or so)? If yes, you can log in with the authenticator from the account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml file. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. ..my laptop with Vista installed. Yesterday Vista crashed totally.. Giving me no other possibility than to install what i had lying around (XP). Not BOINC or Seti related, but usually when a laptop or computer comes pre-installed with an OS, it has a recovery CD or floppy with it, with which you can reinstall the OS (in case of a recovery-floppy, the OS is on a hidden partition on the hard drive, which the floppy can access). You don't need to use another OS then to get things running again. |

Hi there! 99% I guess you have another account. If you happen to look at your account from another computer's browser and selected "Stay logged in on this computer" try from the same another computer & the same browser again. This way you can find what Email address you used for the login recently. If the account you use now is the same you used in the past months I expect it to show 2 computers - the Vista "computer" & the XP "computer". ... Or in your ACCOUNT here click on "Log out" and try to Log in using any other e-mail addresses you have. After you find the correct Email address you have to go to BOINC Manager, detach from project and attach again using the correct Email address. Search on http://boincstats.com/ for user "John Kristian" shows "Your search - john kristian - did not match any user" so you never used BOINC with that name (you used SETI@home classic with the name "John Kristian") Search for e.g. "Gundolf Jahn" shows: http://boincstats.com/search/all_projects.php?cpid=761e46f2fcefe4d1a45a2dbf11734fe6 Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Its the same account allright. Just checked with Boinc. SETI@home member since 13 Mar 2003 Country Norway Total credit 0 Recent average credit 0.00 Hmmm.. "Your Computers" only shows this one with XP installed. But then again some local changes on my pc shouldnt really affect anything. The only thing i can think of is that some months ago i changed the account name from "John" to "John Kristian". That didnt show up before after the XP install. Maybe thats it? But again it clearly shows that the account is from 2003. You should think that if the name change mattered so much a new account would be generated. Ohwell. It really doesnt matter that much. I guess the search goes on regarding how many credits i have! John Kr |

Its the same account allright. Just checked with Boinc. Open the file account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml in the BOINC Data directory. the location of the BOINC Data directory can be found in the first few messages in the messages tab after a startup. Compare the authenticator in that file to the authenticator on the web site for the account you are using to powt with. [edit] DO NOT POST THE AUTHENTICATORS. BOINC WIKI |

The weird thing is that no "John Kristian" can be found with user search, though the replica database is up to date. There's no "john" from Norway either, just three "joh" and two "johan". And no, the change of the user name in your account shouldn't cause any trouble. Gruß, Gundolf [edit]I take that back, now I find "John Kristian", but you still don't show up with "user names starting with john k" from Norway. Pretty weird.[/edit] Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) SETI@home classic workunits 3,758 SETI@home classic CPU time 66,520 hours |

Same authenticator in the file as on the webpage. Of course they will be the same - you have fresh BOINC install and you use now this account for both BOINC and posting on this web page. As I understand your previous BOINC installation is wiped from the disk since you reformatted the HDD and installed Win XP Do you really in all this years never used another computer (of your brother/sister/wife/friend/...) to look at your account?
I did the same from "Bil" to "BilBg" and everything is OK. And the new name is visible in BOINC Manager just in a few seconds after you press the "Update" button! If "That didnt show up before after the XP install." than you changed the name for THIS account you are using now but your OLD BOINC (at the time of Vista) were using Different account! Even if you think that your account info is somehow vanished from the SETI web site why you don't show on http://boincstats.com/ as user "John Kristian" if you use this name since "some months ago"? Boincstats.com has completely different computers/databases and if you used BOINC in the past months with the username "John Kristian" you will be there! 99.9% I bet you never used this account with BOINC, only with SETI classic. Do you have some "friend" who changed (attached) your (OLD) BOINC to crunch for HIS account?! I bet you used to check (in Vista times) your credits only in BOINC Manager, not on this web site ... . First of all. This IS the same account that i have been using all these years. Back in 2003 when only Seti classic was running i downloaded the screensaver and did some work but abruptly stopped when the pc i used then had some serious cooling issues. It reeboted all the time. I really didnt think to much about Seti@home untill June 2009 when i downloaded the Boinc software and connected to SETI@home with the same account that i used for Seti Classic. How i am so sure? Because Seti@home (Boinc) showed the credits for the Seti@home classic work. Now. Seti@home (Boinc) has been running just about every day untill this Vista crash, and untill that point i had somewhere around 2000 credits. Now.. I tend to forget passwords. So just about everytime i had to do something that required me to log on manually to the SETI@home webpage ive used the "Forgot your password?" button. In result i got some emails lying around from Seti@home in my email folder which then ofcourse is the same email adress i have used to log in. Now if it is possible to have multiple accounts on the same email adress then i could ofcourse have screwed things up by creating another account. But thats unlikely. Why? Because when i check out "My Account" on the webpage i STILL see those SETI@classic work units that i did back in 2003, today! Computing and credit Total credit 0 Recent average credit 0.00 SETI@home classic workunits 42 SETI@home classic CPU time 1,245 hours So, i dont know. Probably i actually did recieve an alien signal, which then was noticed by some secret government agents who drove like crazy to the location of the SETI@home servers, kicked down the door and deleted the reported file and all of my credits just to discourage me from ever again joining the SETI project! That was a joke btw, we all know that aliens dont exist.. :) John |

In your account in the "Computing and credit" section, under the Cross-project statistics. |

In your account in the "Computing and credit" section, under the Cross-project statistics. However, since we know that the account your posting with never crunched Boinc. We have to look further afield. Stat site usually have the CPID. I'm currently searching stats sites to see if I can locate your Boinc account. Not having any luck so far finding your name under a different account. Could you have possibly used a different User name. I do know that at one time there was a problem with the way the project handled uppercase letters in email address, so I'm thinking this possibly may have something to do with the loss account. Would there be any clues in your old project emails. Also, have you ever joined any teams? This may also help locate your Boinc account. EDIT: Any other project you may have crunched for? |

I'm currently searching stats sites to see if I can locate your Boinc account. The only one I found was a Mark John Kristiansen from Canada. |

I'm currently searching stats sites to see if I can locate your Boinc account. BoincStats has 2 Kristian (no first name) from norway. 3 projects 2 projects Both have fairly recent Seti sign up dates. No J or John Kristian |

I did find a "John" from Norway with 2,123.77 credits, who got the last ones on 2009-09-26. CPID 7c4020270e251bdeee7f7973e4db8f9e Gruß, Gundolf [edit]John, did you check your credits online or in BOINC manager? If in manager, it's quite possible that you attached your computer to the "John" account and always logged in to the (now) "John Kristian" account. Since the email address is the unique key, it is possible that two different accounts were named "John".[/edit] Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. Here is his account with the credits. YES ! Bravo, arkayn & Gundolf Jahn, the links are correct - the same CPU, 2 computers - Vista "computer" & XP "computer, credits, contact times match. So, John, now we are 100% sure you have 2 accounts, are you? To avoid this to happen again don't type e-mail address - copy & paste it. .
