Depending on which edit of the film you watched; "So this is how democracy dies, with thunderous applause." -Padme Star Wars II: The Clone Wars *Some viewers seemed to have a different quote in the same scene; "So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause." |

"...Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mindboggingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as the final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God." "The argument goes something like this: 'I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, 'for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.' "'But,' says Man, 'The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.' "'Oh dear,' says God, 'I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly vanished in a puff of logic. "'Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing. "Most leading theologians claim that this argument is a load of dingo's kidneys, but that didn't stop Oolon Colluphid making a small fortune when he used it as the central theme of his best- selling book Well That About Wraps It Up For God. "Meanwhile, the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation." -- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. "'Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing. Which is incredibly funny if you're from the U.K. and a mystery to most of us on this side of the pond. |

"'Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing. I didn't think there was a traffic signal there.... |

"'Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing. I think what you have noticed is the Belisha Beacon, introduced by Leslie Hore-Belisha in 1934 to make pedestrian crossings safer. The yellow ball flashes. Here are a couple of pictures - by day and by night. |

"'Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing. Yes, but..... The old "walk/don't walk" signals in the UK weren't red and green lights like in the U.S. but were black or white cards. So, if Man then proved that black was white and white was black, he'd likely be crossing against the signal.... The Belisha Beacon is a good idea, but being yellow it isn't as funny. |

So, if Man then proved that black was white and white was black, he'd likely be crossing against the signal...LoL, I see. No, there's no signal. ( Edit.. Okay..I'll Bite... A zebra crossing, recognised by black/white stripes on the tarmac, is a pedestrian right of way, and cars must stop for all pedestrians at these (without signals). But don't you think that because mankind is capable, since he just reasoned God out of existence despite holding proof he must exist (Babel fish), that the same dodgy reasoning isn't capable of getting him run over on a zebra crossing that gives him right of way under all circumstances?) Sure, pedestrians have the right of way, even when there isn't a proper marked crosswalk (zebra crossing), and hitting a pedestrian is illegal in just about every jurisdiction, no matter what the pedestrian does. But crossing against the signal isn't smart, and the Man is "at risk" because he's being far, far too clever. Moral: you can get in big trouble if you overthink the problem. |

ROFL: You know that's easy to do being descended from a crashed spaceship's inhabitants consisting mostly of hairdressers and telephone desanitisers.
