Ok, no surprise that people who crunch for Seti might just be a self-selected group of sci-fi geeks.

This thread is for pure enjoyment. Post sci-fi quotes that really resonate with you. Your quotes might be from books, movies, tv shows, wherever.

Discussion is welcome. Idle chit-chat is welcome. There is no such thing as off-topic on this thread. Wherever the thread takes us should be a fun frontier to explore.

I will start - A particularly memorable quote for me is something Kosh said on Babylon 5:

The avalanche has already begun. It is too late for the pebbles to vote.

Well maybe I can't vote here in the US. I still think my voice is heard elsewhere.

Ok, a fan of this newly created thread sent me this privately. He was afraid to post it himself because he didn't want to come across as sexist.

I'm sure our moderators will find the link to be "kid friendly" because it is no worse than kids can see at public beaches.

This link really made me laugh and I think it will make you laugh too.

Enjoy! It is the ultimate male Geek fantasy!!!

It doesn't look like we are going this way with military robots but hopefully someday these laws will be applied if A.I. becomes self aware

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2. A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Isaac Asimov

There is of course the 4th Law, The Zeroth Law but won't go into that it might spoil your enjoyment of the final Robot book, Robots and Empire. Hopefully the Elijah Bailey novels will be made into movies someday, but without Will Smith. :D

Star Trek The Motion Picture is full of excellent quotes.

Most that I remember involve Bones or Spock.

Kirk: "Well Bones, do the new medical facilities meet with your approval?"

Bones: "They do not. It's like working in a damn computer center"

Scotty is a hero and roll model to many engineers my age. I can't count the number of times a serious engineering discussion has been broken up by somebody using a bad Scottish accent to say "I can't do it Cap'n, the engines won't take it!"

And no, it wasn't always me. Only sometimes.

The best quotes can be found in Spaceballs by Mel Brooks. Some of my favorites are:

President Skroob: Sandurz, Sandurz. You got to help me. I don't know what to do. I can't make decisions. I'm a president!

Dark Helmet: Before you die there is something you should know about us, Lone Star.
Lone Starr: What?
Dark Helmet: I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
Lone Starr: What's that make us?
Dark Helmet: Absolutely nothing! Which is what you are about to become.

Colonel Sandurz: Prepare ship for light speed.
Dark Helmet: No, no, no, light speed is too slow.
Colonel Sandurz: Light speed, too slow?
Dark Helmet: Yes, we're gonna have to go right to ludicrous speed.

Colonel Sandurz: [squeaks] Prepare ship...
[tries again, with booming voice]
Colonel Sandurz: Prepare ship for ludicrous speed! Fasten all seatbelts, seal all entrances and exits, close all shops in the mall, cancel the three ring circus, secure all animals in the zoo!

Barf: [Spaceball 1 roars by them, in a plaid colouration of speed] Aah!
Barf: What the hell was that?
Lonestar: Spaceball 1.
Barf: They've gone to plaid!

Dark Helmet: [The entire screen goes black] What did you do?
Colonel Sandurz: I turned off the wall.
Dark Helmet: No, you didnt! You turned off the whole movie!
Dark Helmet: Well, put it back on!

So much more stuff, but I better stop before I post the entire script to the movie! LOL

The last line is probably my favorite line from Ghostbusters, but it needs the build-up:

Dr Ray Stantz: Gozer the Gozerian... good evening. As a duly designated representative of the City, County and State of New York, I order you to cease any and all supernatural activity and return forthwith to your place of origin or to the nearest convenient parallel dimension.
Dr. Peter Venkman: [Sarcastically] That oughta do it. Thanks very much, Ray.
Gozer: [after Ray orders her to re-locate] Are you a God?
[Ray looks at Peter, who nods]
Dr Ray Stantz: No.
Gozer: Then... DIE!
[Lightning flies from her fingers, driving the Ghostbusters to the edge of the roof and almost off; people below scream]
Winston Zeddemore: Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say "YES"!

My favorite Ghostbusters quote, from Bill Murray. I use this one quite often in day to day work.

I don't have to take this abuse from you, I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me.

"Deux intellectuels assis vont moins loin qu'une brute qui marche."

From the movie Un Taxi pour Tobrouk directed by Denys de la Patellière in 1960.
Dialogs are from Michel Audiard.

Loosely translated it means "Two sitting intellectuals will not get as far as a walking brute". Even outside of the movie's context it is a wounderful reminder that however good an idea, grand a desire or pressing a need may be nothing will happen unless you take action. The quote is even more fantastic in the movie's setting :)

"Brain and brain! What is brain?" Spoken by a beautiful female brain thief, who was convincing in her lack of understanding. From the episode "Spock's Brain", the original Star Trek.

Almost as good, from the same episode, "You are not Morg, nor Imorg." Note the correct grammar, which is clearly not a sign of intelligence.

Arthur: Normality? We can talk about normality until the cows come home.
Ford: What is normal?
Trillian: What is home?
Zaphod: What're cows?
