I have not gotten any new tasks from seti@home for 3 to 4 days now. What's up?

Not sure. All of my hosts have been getting work successfully.

I see you're connected to two other projects, perhaps your resource share has been met or you owe time to one of those other projects.

Likely probabilities:

1) Some project is borrowind CPU time at the moment, and the work queue is full.

2) S@H has borrowed CPU time recently.

3) S@H has its share of the queue.

You last Seti task ended when you detached from the project. Did you re-attach?

I thought I did. Is there a way to tell that you are NOT attached?

Just reattached got same no new tasks message. I also hit the "no new tasks" radio button on all of the projects to make sure it wasn't "stuck".

Exit the Boinc Manager, restart and post the first 20 lines or so. I was going to say that maybe your machine is too busy with CPDN (Climate Prediction) but it looks like you recently detached from that project.

This button in BOINC Manager shows what option you have, not the state it is in.

This means that when you see "No new tasks" that it will get new tasks.
If it shows "Allow new tasks" it will not get tasks.

The same method is used on the Suspend and Resume button.

I recently reactivated SETI - under <<<Status>>> I see <<<Won't get new tasks.>>>

Is there something I must do to get a new task?

Thanks, I hope this is the right place to ask this Q.

You have to hit the button again to get new work. As long as it says "Won't get new tasks", you won't receive any new tasks.

Please note that SETI's servers had some problems all week and it will be a while before the hundreds of thousands of hosts pound the servers with work requests.

On the projects tab, click on SETI@Home. Click on the button "Allow New Tasks". The buttons show the state that will be in force AFTER the button is pushed.

Thanks for replying, John.

I've followed your instruction and now, under <<<Status>>> I see three dashes [---]

So, am I to understand a new task will now eventually load?

You, sir, are lucky. There is a general outage or tasks at the moment, and almost nobody is getting any from the servers.

My system has said that the project has no work available yet the server status says otherwise. I tried to detach and reattach, but it came back up with the same entry. I tried suspending all other projects to no avail, also.

You have to know how to interpret the Server Status page properly. Even though it says work is available, that is usually not an up-to-date number, evidenced by the "As of" column. Take into consideration that there are over 130,000 active accounts, many with multiple computers, no AP work being sent out to help even the load.

Work is rather low at the moment, and the team is waiting to get the data recorder fixed at Arecibo before they can get some new recordings for us to process.

In other words, it isn't your computer. :)

My server has said that there are no jobs available for the last twenty-four hours. Since I have uploaded completed tasks successfully and can access this site from the BOINC Manager with no problem, am I to assume that there is simply no work available at this time?
Currently I have one task - an Astropulse task that predicts two hundred forty-four hours until completion. Since I am running only the one, will that task be completed more quickly than if I were running the usual four? Or will it be completed in the usual time frame? I know that I am displaying my ignorance here of how the system works but once someone answers those questions and explains the answer to me I will be just a little less ignorant. Please note that I do not yet speak technology-ese so use little words - as if you were explaining it to a student. I may comprehend advanced ideas once I have a solid foundation upon which to put them but the language in which they are stated needs to be one I comprehend. I do appreciate learning more about this program.
Thank you for your assistance.

Tuesday was the weekly maintenance outage. There is usually a backlog of requests for work after the outage, and not everyone gets work immediately.

Unfortunately, S@H tasks are currently all single threaded so the task will take just about as long as it normally would (there are some very minor time savings due to the lack of RAM contention and task switches, but these would subtract only a few seconds to a few minutes over the course of the task described).

If everything works as usual, your computer should be getting more work sometime today.

I do not specifically know what single-threaded means but have a good idea. So now I can just relax about this and worry about it if there are not some new tasks in the next day or so.
Thank you.
