Any opinions on CCLEANER?
I've badly neglected my Registry.

I use it say once a week or so. There are some cleaning options to make sure are switched off (like 'clear old prefetch data') and exclude from cleaning cookies/websites that you want to keep info for. Once you've got that nutted out works well. It can be initially a bit irritating until you've worked out how to drive the options though.

A very good piece of software, I use it regularly to keep my comps clean and tidy. But as Jason mentioned, you will have to go through the various tabs and pages first. You can also try Defraggler from the same developers, good defragging tool.

Be prepared for it to find HUNDREDS of errors.The first time I ran one of these type of programes it found about 600 issues it realy worried me thought I had done something drastic now run it a bit more often.

I can recomend it, it's ben a real big help over the last five years tha I've used it. I'm not running Vista just your normal home XP. It can't hurt.

Thanks Folks. Exactly why I asked here.
There is sooo much CRAP out there. I wanted to avoid screwed-up Software. And after 2+ years I knew manually going through the XP Registry was going to S#*%! ;-]
And I think I may try Defraggler also because Windows Defrag Bites.

I highly recommend Defraggler, as well. I enjoy seeing a good representation of what the disk usage looks like, and you can click on blocks (in newer versions) to see what files are at that particular spot on the disk.

Also the ability to just defrag selected files instead of the "all or nothing" choice the Windows utility gives you.

Good stuff. Also the ability to move large files to the end of the disk/partition is a nice feature. Great for the pagefile if you have one.

I've been using it for a long time and it works pretty good. So far it hasn't wiped anything that shouldn't be wiped.

The important question is how lightweight are they? Defraggler installs as less than a floppy disk, and is actually portable when the setup is installed/extracted.

I've tried O&O before, and did not like that it becomes a system service and that's the only way it works. Tried one or two others and did not like those results either. Have not tried anything new since about a year ago when Defraggler was in the beta testing days. Works great for me and does exactly what I want it to.

not may people work off of floppy disks anymore. JKdefrag/mydefrag is 488k to download for x64 and a little less for the x86 systems. I can assume you could copy/paste the zip file to your desktop and go to work that way. This however is moot when we look at Ccleaner which is over 3MB to d/l and certainly wouldnt fit on a diskette. You'd be better off burning a cd with all your favorite addons and just install from there

I installed this one (and the defrag program), and they seem to work fine. I especially like clearing some of the junk out of the registry.

It said on one of the pages that you could copy the exe file to a USB drive and run it from there. I haven't tried that. I just downloaded and installed on my work computer too.

It's not just the EXE you copy, go into Program Files and copy the whole folder where Defraggler was installed to. Need both 'Defraggler.exe' and 'df.exe' for it to become portable.

Also as a side note I've been using Auslogics' disk defrag and their registry cleaner as well (to hunt down the very FEW bits that CC cleaner has missed)

Hi, yesterday it looked a BOOT DRIVE went down, but it was so defragmented, it wouldn't boot.
After I hooked it up on another computer, I could access it and looked at the drefragmentation, it was horrible.
After 7 hours of defrag. it would boot again.
