Message log says my preferences limit CPU's 2 2 of 4. But I checked the preferences and it says "in multi processor systems use 100%' Why is BOINC not wanting to use all 4?? 8/1/2009 12:59:26 AM Benchmark results: 8/1/2009 12:59:26 AM Number of CPUs: 4 8/1/2009 12:59:26 AM 2475 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU 8/1/2009 12:59:26 AM 7436 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU 8/1/2009 12:59:28 AM Resuming computation 8/1/2009 12:59:34 AM SETI@home Master file download succeeded 8/1/2009 12:59:39 AM SETI@home Sending scheduler request: Project initialization. 8/1/2009 12:59:39 AM SETI@home Requesting new tasks for CPU and GPU 8/1/2009 12:59:44 AM SETI@home Scheduler request completed: got 2 new tasks 8/1/2009 12:59:44 AM SETI@home New computer location: home 8/1/2009 12:59:44 AM SETI@home General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 11-Jan-2006 23:57:44) 8/1/2009 12:59:44 AM SETI@home Computer location: home 8/1/2009 12:59:44 AM SETI@home General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 8/1/2009 12:59:44 AM Preferences limit memory usage when active to 1918.78MB 8/1/2009 12:59:44 AM Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 3453.80MB 8/1/2009 12:59:44 AM Preferences limit disk usage to 100.00GB 8/1/2009 12:59:44 AM Number of usable CPUs has changed from 4 to 2. On multiprocessors, use at most XXX% of the processors determines how much of the CPU time is spent processing work. On multiprocessors, use at most X processors is what determines how many cores/CPUs is used for processing. That needs to be set to 4 (or more if you've got more). Grant Darwin NT |

These are my (web) settings: On multiprocessors, use at most ___ 16 processors On multiprocessors, use at most ___ 100 % of the processors Use at most ____________________ 100 percent of CPU time  - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)  |

On multiprocessors, use at most ___ 16 processors This one is used to set the amount of processors you want BOINC to use on BOINC 5.10 and below. On multiprocessors, use at most ___ 100 % of the processors This one is used to set the amount of processors you want BOINC to use on BOINC 6.1 and above. Use at most ____________________ 100 percent of CPU time This one is used for CPU thermal throttling. Set to anything below 100% and BOINC will pause/resume the science applications for one or more seconds per minute. You'll see a see-saw graphic in Task Manager's Performance tab. |

In your BOINC data directory, do you have a global_prefs_override.xml? (If youhave not found the global_prefs.xml file and the client_state.xml file, you have not found the BOINC data directory. BOINC WIKI |

Check this link and and make sure that you are using 100% of your processors. Since it does not say reading preference override file, it is getting the info from the website. |
