Alaphilippe was quite tired today at the final kilometres though...
Anyway, before the Alps there is a flat stage in Nîmes, the old Roman city, on Tuesday.
General classification after stage 15
1 Julian Alaphilippe (Fra) Deceuninck-QuickStep 61:00:22
2 Geraint Thomas (GBr) Team Ineos 0:01:35
3 Steven Kruijswijk (Ned) Team Jumbo-Visma 0:01:47

Today it was Caleb Ewan who won the stage.
No change in the GC and Alaphilippe still in Maillot Jaune.
Geraint Thomas second after Alaphilippe crashed at nearly 50km/h, falling hard on his left side after his front wheel went away from him so maybe he will have some problems tomorrow.

Matteo Trentin won today in a very hot stage.
"Today was all in: everything or nothing," Trentin explained.
The Alaphilippe peloton crosses the line 20:10 down on Trentin.
Guess no change in the GC today.

Federica Pellegrini,31, wins the 200 meters freestyle in Korea. It's her sixth gold medal in world championships. Gregorio Paltrinieri wins the 800 meters freestyle and is ready for the 1500 meters.

Impressive. “I’m too old for this,” Pellegrini joked.
She joined Katinka Hosszu and Sarah Sjöström as the only women to win an event at least four times at the world champs.
Sarah Sjöström took the bronze medal.

Oh dear. Tony Martin and Luke Rowe have now been disqualified from the Tour de France.
Both riders were found guilty of assault according to Article 2.12.007/8.2.1 of the UCI code.

Supporters clap hands every time the Italian national anthem is played like the listeners do when the Radetzky march is played in Wien at the New Year Concert. But the Wien people do it with a bettertimimg. Maybe we should ask Riccardo Muti to conduct the supporters of Federica Pellegrini and Gregorio Paltrinieri.

Federica Pellegrini is called 'La Divina'.
What is Gregorio Paltrinieri called?
Well watch out, there are both Swedish and Norwegian swimmers that will compete again next year in the Olympics. Hehe:)

Lot's of vezzeggiativo in Italy. Vincenzo Nibali's is "lo Squalo dello Stretto". Fausto Coppi "Airone".
I did a little "research" if Italy had nicknames for Swedish footplayers like Nacka Skoglund who played for Inter in the 50's.
But I only found the team Gre-No-Li from the 60's.
https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gre-No-Li
Anyway it seems like this type of name giving even for last name started already in the Roman days.
For instance Cicero, derived from the latin word cicer meaning chickpea.
Apparently he had or perhaps one of his parents a carbuncle on the tip of the nose:)

The gaps to the GC contenders are still about one and a half minute.
Will Julian Alaphilippe win the Maillot Jaune at the Champs-Élysées, the first Frenchmen since Bernard Hinault in 1985?
General classification after stage 18

Thibaut Pinot retires for unknown reasons. Now all French hopes are on Alaphilippe.

He quit the race in tears apparently due to pain his left thigh and knee.
It was clear Pinot was in pain when he called for the Tour de France doctor’s car after 30km of the decisive mountain stage to Tignes.
The doctor removed a bandage from his knee and applied a bandage around his lower thigh after cutting away part of Pinot’s shorts. Soon after the Groupama-FDJ team car pulled up alongside a visibly emotional and visibly struggling Pinot.

The race is interrupted at the Col de l'Iseran with Egan Bernal leading. He is the new Maillot Jaune. There was ice from a hailstorm on the road.

No official stage winner today as extreme weather forces neutralisation at top of Col de l'Iseran.

But it seems that the general classification times were taken at the summit of the Iseran.
A provisional GC
1 Egan Bernal (Col) Team Ineos
2 Julian Alaphilippe (Fra) Deceuninck-QuickStep 00:00:45
3 Geraint Thomas (GBr) Team Ineos 00:01:03
4 Steven Kruijswijk (Ned) Jumbo-Visma 00:01:15
5 Emanuel Buchmann (Ger) Bora-Hansgrohe 00:01:42
Julian Alaphilippe about his chance to recoup on Saturday. "I don't think so. It was already a dream to wear the jersey. I've pursued the dream for a long time – a lot longer than I ever imagined. Voila, that's how it is."
