Donna Strickland is the third woman to get the Nobel Prize in Physics, and the first since 1963. During the press conference, she is asked if she has any comment.
"I thought there could have been more. I do not know what to say but I'm honored to be one of those women, "Donna Strickland replies.
The Nobel Prize-winning article was her first and part of her doctoral thesis.
"It's not bad," says Gunnar Ingelman, professor of subatomic physics.

And the 96-year-old Arthur Ashkin is still in full swing with his research. He has told the Royal Academy of Sciences that he probably can not give any interviews because he is busy with his next scientific article:)

The Bicycle is the Most Efficient Machine on Earth!
http://www.bfw.org/blog/2014/06/11/the-bicycle-is-the-most-efficient-machine-on-earth/

I did some calculations and compared with 1 liter gasoline that contain 10 kWh of energy.
Biking at 20 km/h (moderate tempo) equals approximately 100 W on average and 1 liter of gasoline would then last for 100 hours ie about 2,000 km.
That's about the distance from Stockholm to Trieste:)

Race cyclists have all a power monitor on their bikes. They can go as up as 500 W while sprinting to win.

7300 cyclists have run the Eroica circuit in Chiantishire with bikes built before 1987. The circuits went from 39 to 209 km both on asphalt and gravel roads. There is no information about the Chianti consumption/km.

Nice:) I don't have a bicycle that old anymore. However I saw that you can also participate with new Vintage Style Bikes if they are road racing bikes assembled using vintage components or replicated parts similar to the original like the Bianchi L'Eroica.

Note the shift levers, toe clips and straps, and brake cables:)
Ops. A Bianchi L'Eroica costs 2,299€ ...

I see a Simplex gearshift. But I had one bike with the old Campagnolo gearshift, with two levers on the rear wheel. Now I have a Shimano 5x3 gearshift on the handlebar.

I think the gear shifts are Campagnolo since the derailleurs are Campagnolo Silver Vintage 10sp.

Acually my Bianchi from around the early 90's (low budget) has Simplex derailleurs with Simplex gear shifts.

When to come think about it, my bike could probably qualify to do the L'Eroica.
Seems that the only thing I has to do is to change my saddle to a leather saddle.
L'Eroica, here I come. Chianti wine will probably ease my pain after the race on gravel roads:)

When riding a Bianchi a waterbottle is necessary and with the color Celeste of course.

Contradictory myths say Celeste is the colour of the Milan sky, the eye colour of a former queen of Italy for whom Edoardo Bianchi made a bicycle (the crowned eagle of the company logo is an adaptation of the former royal crest) and that it was a mixture of surplus military paint. The shade has changed over the years, sometimes more blue, then more green.
My bike came with that colored water bottle as well:)

Si:) Il più grande ciclista di tutti i tempi. Se non fosse stato per la seconda guerra mondiale, Coppi sarebbe ancora più grande!

Coppi and Bartali represent the two souls of Italy, the lay soul (Coppi) and the Catholic soul (Bartali). Bartali was named Just among the Nations by Israel this year for his help in saving Jews during the Nazi occupation of Florence, risking his own life.

I used to have Eurosport before. Expert commentators are Roberto Vacchi and Anders Adamson, both former cyclists.
Vacchi's parents came to Sweden from Italy in the 50's or 60's.
Since watching cycling can be rather boring at times I really enjoy their stories and anecdotes. They have many, not only about cycling but also history and cycling fashion:)
Adamson is often called by Vacchi for "Expert of Experts". This is possibly a travesty on the nickname of Vacchis favorite cyclist Fausto Coppi, sometimes known as Il Campionissimo, champion of champions.

Another Italian who came to Sweden in the 50's is Salvatore Grimaldi, Cykelkungen (The Bicycle King).
He is the owner of Bianchi (Coppi used them) since 1997 and keeping the traditions of 133 years of bicycle manufacturing alive.
Salvatore Grimaldi sings "O sole mio". LOL:)

Opa!
Last year Ferrari lent its name to the cycling world, and not to any coot but to Bianchi. The project is called "Bianchi for Scuderia Ferrari" and will result in bicycles in principle all categories. such as road bikes, mountain bikes, electric bikes, city-fitness bikes and children's bikes.
But Bianchi has not only bought the name, it promises that R&D from the two companies will work close to each other.
These bikes are painted in Enzo-red and Dino-yellow instead of Celeste:) Ferrari Red and Giallo Modena color to be exact.
https://store.ferrari.com/en-au/collection/bianchi-for-scuderia-ferrari
Owner and chairman of Bianchi Salvatore Grimaldi and Ferrari Chief Brand Officer Luca Fuso celebrate the partnership.

The prize for a Bianchi for Scuderia Ferrari? $18,000 !

Thibaut Pinot wins the Milano Torino race, ending on the Colle di Superga near the Basilica. An Italian airliner crashed on that hill in 1948 destroying the whole Torino soccer team. Tomorrow is the Giro del Piemonte and Saturday the Giro di Lombardia, which ends the Italian cycling race season.
