Martin Sundby is from Norway, not Sweden:)
Wish he was a Swede though.

Anyway Bolshunov almost died one meter before the finish line after the tough climb to the summit of Alpe Cermis.
Well, he has recovered.

I used to ski uphill from Pozza di Fassa in Val di Fassa to Rifugio Gardeccia under the Vajolet Towers of the Catinaccio (Rosengarten) Group. But I did not race and made the descent using good old snowplough until I hit the Marcialonga track on the valley. Then I went to a spa at Hotel Antco Bagno to get warm mud, vapor bath and massages. Then a glass of Pinot Grigio.

Lot of snow in the Western Alps in Piedmont and Aosta Valley. Cervinia, Gressoney, Cogne are some of the ski resorts now isolated by avalanches. Imagine some tourists having to phone their office after a Settimana Bianca saying I can't come and work, the roads are blocked.

Other parts of Italy, however, are experiencing exceptionally warm weather, with temperatures of more than 20 degrees Celsius recorded last weekend in parts of the south and centre.

A northern cold front hitting a humid warm front results in huge snowfall. At least the melting of the snow will result in higher water capacity of the dams nurturing hydroelectric power plants. Last year winter was very dry and hydropower fell, with increased costs for citizens. Big electricity consumers obtained a discount from the Gov to maintain them competitive, at the expense of private citizens. My electricity bill with 3 PCs running 24/7 will rise.

Huge snowfall also in Switzerland. Zermatt is isolated, even the train cannot reach it and tourists are evacuated by helicopter. I doubt very much that the Lauberhorn downhill at Wengen will by raced, strong winds have damaged the trail and the stands at departure and arrival. Even the Swiss cannot do much against weather.

Lauberhornrennen are not in jeopardy. The men are doing their training runs right now.
And the forecast for the next couple days is looking good with hardly any snow and wind.
Saturdays down hill looks to be a perfect sunny day.

Combined event is a weird event.
Anyway, you get WC points if you are among the top 30 finishers.

Btw. What is the specialty Cup?

There is a Cup for Slalom, one for Giant Slalom, one for Downhill, one for SuperG and one for the Combined event, which Peter won. From next year this will be substituted by a Parallel Slalom, or Parallel Giant Slalom Cup, I don't know. In Italian all these Cups are called "Coppette" to distinguish them from the World Cup. Peter has already won three of them.

I see.
I don't think most of the skiers like the combined event so the substitution to parallel events is probably welcomed.
Also there will be a Parallel Slalom event, both men and ladies, in Stockholm in January 30th :)

Elena Fanchini will not take part in the Olympics games. On a Facebook page she announces having been diagnosed a tumor. She is 32 years old. Auguri, Elena.

Brava Federica!
However Mikaela Schiffrin didn't compete today.
But she will in the Cortina d'Ampezzo downhill next week...

Aksel Lund Svindal "Supergutten" is still going strong.
He is 35 years old :)

Oh Peter Fill almost fell on the starting line today but he recovered and finished 10th.
And Innerhofer, the skier who can go downhill blindfolded, had a bad day today.

Federico Pellegrino wins the sprint race at Dresden over Johannes Klaebo. It seems that Innerhofer had problems with his airbag.

First Federica and then Federico in the same day.
I like that.
And they are not Norwegian:)
