5 minutes ago all was fine (downloaded a wu), now it is slow, after a "bump" (it took almost two minutes to get a response for the new tasks request), but it's working at my end..

Just in time to make it impossible to get any of the AP that are now available.

I haven't managed to snag a single AP since early June :(
Every time they are available, I get locked out by having too many uploads pending, I think it's all a conspiracy to keep me on MB ;)

AMEN to that! That's why I don't process much anymore
I don't even have uploads pending and AP is not available no matter how many are available. It seems if you have 100 tasks for 3 machines you don't get AP but if you have 1000+ you get them all.

Interesting observation, I don't know if it is so myself but I shall look further at that. I don't mind processing MB but I do get a bit more RAC when my CPUs can get their teeth into AP - yummy!!

On a related topic, I have seen many questions along the lines of "are we going to have the ability to select AP5v5 on the preferences page?" but I've never seen any form of satisfactory answer. By that I mean "no", not really satisfying but at least clear; or "yes in xx days".

Anybody else got an answer? Sorry if this is going a little off topic.

Following this even further, it seems lately that when AP is available the only way we get reasonably sensible download performance is for the upload to be turned off. We then have fits of AP available, the AP in progress climbs gradually up without ever quite satisfying the demand out there. When all available/permitted AP is in circulation then the upload is turned back on.

Would it not be possible to have maybe one AP splitter running for longer or even all the time and be able to cope with bandwidth? My quick by-eye averaging of the scarecrow & Cricket graphs leads me to think maybe there is sufficient bandwidth now with the double length MB being sent out. Has anyone analysed this properly? It doesn't seem to have been actually tried - but I may have missed it :) I'll try to estimate this better over the weekend.

@Hal
You have got the "If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?" option in your preferences set to "yes", I hope? If not you wont get any ;)

I did'nt get any astropulse work since end of may even with accept work from other etc. set to yes. It's not for the credits that I want astropulse only it's because the science involved.
So recently I switched to Einstein@home. Less credits compared to MB but more science involved I believe.

Edit:
I changed the setting to no now btw in case things change to work send with it set to no.

The weekend must be coming :-)
According to the Server Status page, Bruno is down and uploads have been stalled for about two hours.

Both of my computers have Wu to upload.
Asfar as the AP work units. I had some V5.03 near the end of june and that was it. I updated my lunatics to get the V5.05 but havent gotten one yet. My settings are checked how they are supposed to be checked.
I run a .10 day cache and so the P4 only has 2 to 4 work units waiting to crunch so i dont think thats a problem. I just think thers a guy out there getting them e-mailed to him:)

The UL server is offline:
Disabled: Program has been disabled by staff
(for debugging/maintenance)

..so for a - I hope - well reason.. ;-)

I guess the Berkeley crew don't disable the UL server only for to annoy us..

I guess Matt will post later in the 'TNews' what happened.

Oh well, its not a big issue if the Upload Server is disabled for a short time, but if it stays that way for too long, there is going to be a very big queue when it is back to normal! Are the longer MB WUs an attempt to ease the load on the servers?

I stand to be corrected, here, but it would appear to me that if the "additional work" cache is smaller than the estimated run-time for a aingle AP then you will never be allocated an AP? After all, the work request actually requests xx seconds of work so I would not expect a task with an estimate of 10 * xx to be allocated - or does it just allocate the next task and then think "Oops - no more space left"?

It doesn't matter if cache-size is one second or larger, you'll still need a full wu to fill this cache-size.

Afterall, if work-cache needed to be larger than wu-size, no-one would download any of the 3-month+ CPDN-models. :)
