i talked to my boss at work and i have permission to install boinc on a few computers there, provided it does not interfere with the people using them. somtimes at work we disable internet access. if this happens boinc makes a window pop up saying there boinc cant communicate with the internet or something to that effect. if i can disable that, and have boinc run hidden in the background i can add a few more pc's.

any ideas?

Did you install boinc as a service? I'm running boinc at my office too and I'm not allowed to send and receive data through the firewall so I never have internet access and there have never been any messages at all. I set all the clients to "network activity disabled" and "no new work" so that they don't hammer on the network if WUs are finished.

If you have the Clients set to no network, then you do not need to set NNW.

If your company uses the internet on some schedule (everyone in the office 8 to 5, and no internet usage after that, for example) you can use the scheduled internet usage that is built into BOINC.

Seems like your issue is actually the info messages that Boinc Manager pops up from time to time.

If you install BOINC as a service you dont have to have the Manager program running at all. Remove it from the Startup folder and there will be no obvious sign that Boinc is running.

When you need to change settings or check things, just start Boinc Manager from the menu. When you exit make sure you leave the service running.

To disable the Boinc needs Internet connection message. Advanced menu -> Options -> Network reminder interval Slider to 0.
