When I run the new boinc my fans go nuts. They cycle on and off. Running on a brand new dual 2.5 G5 with a gig of ram.

I cannot confirm this! I also run BOINC 4.13 within Seti Controll on a Dual 2.5 GHz with 1 GB RAM and I only heard one fan going on and off every 15 seconds. This is on low RPM though, so not a problem.

I am having the same issue with my G5 with dual 2s. My fans are cycling on and off and it's startng to drive me nuts.... Also, since BOINC is not suspending when I'm using the workstation as it should, it's even more annoying. I pretty much shut it down when I'm working.

I have this problem as well on my DP 2.5 w/ 4G RAM. It seems to be the top fans, not the CPU fans that cycle on and off. I've heard the new firmware update may do something for this, but I've not installed it yet.

I just installed the new firmware update and it has made no difference at all. The fans seem to run even longer now.....

Hi guys,

it is absolutely normal that your fans go on and off! Please check activity monitor: When you run SETI@Home your processors will run at almost 100%. Download Hardware Monitor from versiontracker.com and you will see that the temperature for the CPUs is around 85°C and for the cooling metal between 70 and 100°C. Imagine what would happen if the fans were quiet...

If you want a quiet machine - quit crunching!

Hi , I have quad g5 and the same thing happen and it locked up.
Try adjusting the preferences" on multiprocessors, use at most "
it was set to 2 and was trying to run 4 calculations through them.

Now I have it set to 4 processors and it is quiet as a mouse.
