His app_info is faulty, so Boinc wouldn't see it, Agreed, i just didn't have the link available at the time. Claggy |

I thank you for the info but i havent had sleep for 21 hours so any thing i would try to do i would mess up. Know the feeling. Come back to it tomorrow. It really is straightforward. Download the unified installer for your OS. Stop all Boinc processes. Run the installer. Start Boinc. F. |

Is this the 5 minute panic or the full half-hour jobbie? (with apologies to Monty Python) It's panic mode for the kitties in the morning when the first rig runs out of their favorite AP kibble......... Laugh if you want......the kitties are serious about their kibble...... They'll have my toes for breakfast........ "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

The resourse share doesn't work properly according to other posts. Resource shares work fairly well. But even so, if you're only using other projects as a backup, then who cares how accurate it is as long as you have another project sending you work to keep you busy? :) It seems stupid if the project servers report ready to send and no 6.03 or 6.08 wu's are actually sent. Remember that the number is only so accurate as of X minutes ago, and with everyone clamoring for more work (and with AP out of the picture), any available will go quickly. Also why after the weekly outage is the replica db always of late hours behind the main db surely it could be copied from the main at the outage. Why mess with it and take hours to copy the db when you can simply let it catch up on its own during the course of the week. Its only a minor annoyance when the replica is behind. Its not like its the end of the world! :) |

The resourse share doesn't work properly according to other posts. So, because other people say it doesn't work, you won't even try? I crunch three projects, with SETI at 90% -- and it tracks resource share well. What people expect when they have several projects is that BOINC will always have some work from all of them, and it won't. The balance is long-term, not short-term. Trying to follow short term leads to missed deadlines.
I think your standards are probably too high, and the SETI servers will never be sorted to meet your personal expectations because that level of reliability is simply not needed -- and not in the project budget.
For those of us who understand it, it makes sense. It only seems stupid if you don't understand how the numbers are displayed (and are always stale) and if you don't know how work gets from the "ready" queue to the scheduler. The scheduler has a queue of 100 work units to assign. The feeder may not fill that queue as fast as the scheduler wants to assign work.
Don't know, and don't really care. Those who are disappointed are looking at SETI and comparing to Amazon.com. If Amazon is down, they're losing thousands and thousands of dollars every minute. If SETI is down, it means the BOINC client has to retry -- or maybe crunch a little more for some other project now, and crunch extra SETI later to get back to resource shares. |

Thanks OzzFan and Ned Ludd for the explanations. I have had some sleep now and seen the error of my ways. I am running the cache down on one rig to do a clean and rebuild so that one has nnw set, the main rig still has had no work sent to it 6hrs later. It is down to its last 5 hrs of enhanced 6.08 no enhanced 6.03 at all so the 8 cores are running milkyway. I don't know what the gpu's will do? |

To Claggy, Fred W, Westsail & Pyxey, Skildude, Thank you all for trying to help me out yesterday with my combined ops. After a good 10 of sleep I just installed the unified installer , restarted Boinc and Seti found my app info file and using an anonymous platform. I sure appreciate all the time and patience you have to deal with All the newbies like me. It speaks well of the project and people. [/quote] Old James |

To Claggy, Fred W, Westsail & Pyxey, Skildude, Thank you all for trying to help me out yesterday with my combined ops. After a good 10 of sleep I just installed the unified installer , restarted Boinc and No problemo. I well remember the first (dumb) question that I posted as a noob to Boinc and the courtesey of the response I got, even though, as I now well know, it was a question that had been asked a zillion times before. All we ask is that, as you become more experienced you extend the same service to the next generation of noobs. F. [edit]And yes, it is because of the quality of the people involved that I hang around the SETI boards more than any other.[/edit] |

Ah, the weekend is upon us and our friend Chaos, seems to be afoot. In other words, I've several WUs to upload/report and they're going nowhere! Happy days. Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

In other words, I've several WUs to upload/report and they're going nowhere! There isn't anything here that is due before the 17th. No reason to panic before the 16th. |

Network traffic is extremely bursty at the moment. Either get a "Server has no jobs avaiable" message or the occasional HTTP error when the traffic's really heavy. But every so often i get a few downloads. With my existing 4 day cache i expect it'll be about 3-4 weeks before i actually run out of work. I expect they'll have things sorted by then, so no real need for getting worked up at this stage. Grant Darwin NT |
