The link to the checkin notes:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/boinc/checkin_notes

As for my last statement, it is caused by all the whining from people accross this board who fail to grasp just how complicated a system boinc is.

I just saw your statement as being rather harsh in nature.

The following is something I left in another thread which I feel explains a lot:

Ok! This is my interpretation of the general consensus of frustrated people asking for information from the dev team:

1. I have not seen where anybody is asking for a steady diet of information from the dev team. They are asking for general information so that we may stay informed on why things happen the way they do.

---- All those who agree with this assessment, raise your hands. Let's see: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.... Thank you....

2. I have read and interpreted that some people replying to posts ass/u/me that people want a steady diet of information. I have not seen any evidence of this at all.

---- All those who agree with this assessment, raise your hands. Let's see: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.... Thank you....

Now, for the solution (dev team, pay close attention now):

When software is improved, re-worked to eliminate bugs, etc., wouldn't it be standard procedure to test and make notes of any anomolies before the public release? Yes, I know, that's what alpha and beta testing is for. Ok, it's tested and found that this happens longer, that happens once in a while, the next thing doesn't happen when it's supposed to, etc.

Compile a list of problems and a list of changes that affect the way the software does its work. Now, instead of just posting a short little note on the front page telling people they need to upgrade and it is mandatory, add a link to a page that reports the lists.

It's not that hard to do. This way when people find that it takes twice as long to process a WU, they can go to this page to find out why. Maybe it's more calculations, mabe it's a bug that hasn't raised its head so that the dev team can find it, who knows. This fact should have been found during the testing and noted for the linked page.

This, in my opinion, would all but eliminate the complaining. Then we can get down to our little speculations as to why this works that way or that works this way or whatever.

So people, would this not be a viable solution to our frustration with not knowing what is going on? I think so....

Perhaps you (Mr. Volcan should join the Beta team... and keep the rest of us updated since you don't want to donate $1 to the cause...:)

P.S. Just a suggestion....:)

Bosh, you really need to step back a couple days and figure out who's a newbie, and when your preception comes close to reality!...

There are many (I'm included) who have been with the beta for over a year...

I think that we need to provide you with an ""offical cheerleader uniform", but right now, you don't know the dance moves!

Go to the donation thread, you will see my donation message. "Just a suggestion....:)". Oh, and as far as your "Blaaa, blaaa, blaaa", don't put me down for trying to impart information, which for the most part, is accurate and logical. If I happen to make an error in my statements and am informed about it, I acknowledge the fact and thank whomever for setting me straight. And, it is spelled V u l c a n not V o l c a n.

Now I remember why I bailed out and sent all my resources over to CPDN. I almost had delusions of coming back to Seti. Thanks for the kick in the head.

That's because he runs Linux and there isn't a 4.05 SETI application for Linux :)

==========

I hear you Dogbytes, I did the same thing only split it between LHC & CPDN. BOINC Seti@Home is a great Project to run if your into Pain & being Beat down like a Dog I guess but since my Doctor told me to keep my Blood Pressure down I just can't take the chance anymore... :)

Replying to 2 of your posts. The other follows:

What is it with you?!? If all you're trying to do is cause trouble, than I suggest you go do it somewhere else and not here. You are acting like a "newbie" who lost his pacifier, go away!

All of the development notes, plus the bug database, is accessible on the web.

Alot of it is written from one person who knows what they're talking about to another person who also knows what they're talking about, so it's sometimes a little hard to parse, but it's there.

That said, there are many posts that simply assume facts not in evidence, and when there is wiggle room, people like "azwoody" usually assume the worst.

.... and others who say "omygod, there is a bug" and stop crunching, while those of us who are simply harnessing wasted clock cycles just keep going.

If SETI loses clock cycles that would have been lost anyway, who cares!

Why waste clock cycles, period. There are other projects that have their acts together. A pig with lipstick on it is still a pig.
