Many of you may have used the BOINC Wiki at http://www.boinc-wiki.info to solve your problems with BOINC. Much of the documentation on the site is still relevant to BOINC 6, although some needs reworking to encompass BOINC 6's new interface and other details. I therefore would like to ask anybody with information about BOINC 6 to spare 5 minutes at some point over the next two weeks to simplify a page, improve a page or create a new page (or if you are feeling helpful, all three). In addition to this, the domain names expire on June 4th 2009. At this time, the current sponsor dislikes the adverts that were present, and continuing to supporting the domain names is an additional burden on his expenses, and I cannot support them myself. I should point out that Eric Myers has, been incredibly helpful and supportive providing the domains for the past two years, but I feel it is time that I took control of the domains for the site I have worked to keep running. The total cost of domain names for the BOINC Wiki is about £52 per year, and this year there is an additional £30 overhead this summer to migrate to a different name provider. All I ask is that anyone who found something useful on the Wiki donate a small amount using Paypal to keeping the site running - a Donate button is provided on every page. I hope you will respond to this in the way I know the community will. Many thanks for your support. -- Chris Malton (BOINC Wiki Administrator) |

Just the other day, i mentioned to Paul D. Buck that the Unofficial BOINC wiki had become a complete mockery with the adverts placed all over the thing. Its a disgrace and its doing an injustice to all the hard work that many people put into the UBW over the years. Chris, This is my proposal; I will take the whole thing, lock stock and smoking barrel!. I will host it, pay for hosting and i will also pay for the domain name. This will guarantee the continuation of the UBW for a long time to come. It will be hosted with NO ADVERTISING OF ANY KIND! One condition; I get the whole thing, The database and website. I won't pay for a domain name, or a website for someone to make money from information voluntarily contributed by people. You can contact me here. John. www.unitedboinc.com . ![]() |

By the way, who are you using for registrar? Every registrar I have seen charges around US$1 per month for .info domain names... Contribute to the Wiki! |

It's not the .info that does it. We've also got .net and .org that point there as well. .info is 88p per year on my registrar. I apologise for getting my figures wrong though: It is in fact £52 every 2 years. £10 per .net or .org, plus the £0.88 for the .info, and then they whack on 15% tax. As it would appear, John is working hard to migrate now. I'm hoping that the migration will be complete in the next week or two, and then I can finally sign off as BOINC Wiki admin. It's been a fun two years, and I'll be sad to go, but I think it probably needs somebody who is more involved with the BOINC community being in charge. I struggle to keep on top of the odd bit of spam at times. |

It's not the .info that does it. We've also got .net and .org that point there as well. Why do we? Why have multiple domains if you're struggling to pay for them? Show me someone who is linking to the .net or .org names. Contribute to the Wiki! |

I have the boinc wiki sitting on my server, I'm just waiting for a email reply from Eric Myres to proceed with the transfer of the boinc-wiki.info domain. I said to him that i don't want any other domains, just boinc-wiki.info. No reply yet, maybe Eric is on Holidays or something. John. ![]() |
