My point basically is that the media reporting seems to engender a negative concept of law enforcement among the populace, If one goes into a encounter with a negative attitude such as the purported victim did he can expect to be seen as a DUCK! A suspicious person. Racial profiling claims in this case are simply a negative attitude gone wrong and he should of KNOWN THAT being so highly educated.

GOP takes another shot at Boxer

Dan Walters
THE SACRAMENTO BEE

August 13, 2009

California's U.S. senators tend to fall into two categories — headline-grabbers and dependable workhorses for the state's interests.

For the past 17 years, the state's two senators have been Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer. Both elected during the much-heralded “year of the woman,” they have followed the state's time-honored pattern.

Boxer draws media attention with her quixotic political forays, often involving some left-of-center cause having nothing to do with California, while Feinstein is the go-to person for the state's economic and political interests.

It explains why voter polls consistently find that Feinstein is among the state's highest-rated political figures while Boxer's popularity swings with the tides and rarely reaches beyond the magic 50 percent level.

Every six years, Republicans believe that with just the right candidate and just the right amount of money, they can knock off the woman they love to hate. And they are heartened again by a new poll showing Boxer barely leading the most likely 2010 challenger, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.

The Rasmussen Reports poll found that 45 percent of California voters support Boxer's re-election, with Fiorina at 41 percent and 7 percent undecided, much closer than a March poll. Fiorina isn't a declared candidate yet and also would have to defeat Chuck DeVore, a very conservative Republican legislator, for the GOP nomination.

The latest poll, true to form, found Boxer's overall job approval rating among California voters to be fairly low, with just 21 percent holding a “very favorable” view, down six points from March.

The somewhat negative polling reflects not only Boxer's historically low approval ratings among Californians but also a couple of recent flashes of publicity, most notably a much-circulated video clip in which she upbraids an Army general for referring to her as “ma'am” and not “senator” during a committee hearing, even though the former is the military equivalent of calling a male senator “sir.”

Boxer is also making waves by chairing the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee's sessions on global warming in a somewhat imperious manner, drawing criticism, albeit muted, even from Democrats.

The Politico Web site reported, “In private conversations, Senate staffers say that Boxer's abrasive personal style helped tank the climate bill that Sen. Joe Lieberman ... and former Sen. John Warner ... sponsored last year.”

Boxer, who has written two novels with a fictional version of herself as the heroine, is characteristically unapologetic for her confrontational style, telling Politico that the publicity “only revs up my people” and helps her raise “millions of dollars because these people are attacking me in the most ridiculous, unfair way.”

Boxer will probably win another term next year, but she's not a sure bet. If Republicans have a chance to unseat her, it would be with a wealthy, moderate woman — someone like Carly Fiorina.

News From the Swamp: Deficit Continues to Climb
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) announced that the federal budget deficit reached $1.3 trillion in July after having grown $181 billion last month alone. That puts the deficit on track to hit the projected $1.8 trillion for fiscal year 2009 that ends Sept. 30. Individual and corporate tax receipts are partially to blame, having fallen 17 percent since this point last year, thanks in large part to the recession. Increased government spending has been the heavy hitter, though. The billions of dollars of taxpayer money thrown at banks, the automobile industry, unemployment and the ever-growing Medicare and Medicaid entitlements have added $530 billion to this year's budget, a 21 percent increase over last year. Congress and the White House appear undisturbed by this news, however. Instead of cutting spending, the Democrats want to add a $1 trillion health care plan to our liabilities.

The Treasury Department's answer to handling the debt is not to reduce spending but to raise the national debt ceiling above its current $12.1 trillion. Sure, why not? Secretary Timothy Geithner suggested that Congress should raise the limit "so that citizens and investors here and around the world can remain [get this] confident that the United States will always meet its obligations." Geithner, who knows a thing or two about avoiding tax obligations, did not explain just how ignoring government debt limits in order to push more frivolous spending is supposed to instill confidence in the American economy.

Guys, if you're going to use an online blog, journal, or article, for a post, that's fine. Have the courtesy (for the author and reader) to cite your source. I, for one, prefer to know whether I'm having a discussion with an individual or the Patriot Post, the Huffington Post, or some other "authoritative" <cough> source.

Muchas gracias.

I have learned that this leads to attacks on the source and the subject being ignored. imo...

If you agree with the subject matter; fine. If you do not; fine. I often find there is no "right or wrong" just shades of gray.

Hal,
I totally agree with you on this one and thought that my comment specified this. Apparently not and for that I appologize.
As I stated, my experience as part of the academic community as well as my son's experience as a law enforcement officer with that community was the reason that I doubted the racial profiling aspect of this case.
To the victor goes not only the spoils of war but, more importantly, the bias of history.

Really? That's too bad. I would hope that the subject matter would be disputed rather than the source. [/quote]

In some cases, very true. However, interpretation of figures and statistics are easily (and frequently) manipulated and then presented as fact, rather than as one of several possible outcomes. This is particularly true when forecasts of future impacts are represented as anything other than "educated guesses".

Unfortunately, the web is full of sources spouting "the truth."

Have a nice weekend!

National Debt Cap Will Need to Rise, Treasury Predicts

By Lori Montgomery

Congress will be forced to raise the legal limit on the nation's credit card sometime later this year, Treasury officials reported Wednesday, focusing additional attention on the expanding national debt just as lawmakers expect to be putting the finishing touches on President Obama's trillion-dollar overhaul of the nation's health care system.

The amount the government may borrow from the public, including foreign creditors, is limited by law to $12.1 trillion, a cap that has been raised several times since the nation slipped into recession in December 2007. Treasury officials predicted this week that they expect to borrow an additional $892 billion through the end of the year, driving the overall debt past the cap sometime in the fourth quarter.

It's never been an attack on the source. It's been asking for you and others to provide your opinion as well as the sources. It's never enough to just post someone elses opinion. Your opinion matters. do you agree/disagree with the source piece. I can either assume the person you've posted is either annoying to you or in line with your thoughts. either way its nice to see who provided what and hear/read what you think. As I've said before I get what the opinion writer gets when the write what they write. Unfortunately I don't get to understand you, the poster, and why you thought the piece was important. the idea here is to be transparent about the sources because I'd find a pro jim crow law piece placed by an anonymous source more suspect than one from the Heritage foundation. BTW I don't think there is a pro jim crow law group but I could be wrong.
Also not quoting a source is tantamount to plagerism. you claim the words as your own. I know the intent is to provide a topic. the essence is that you've stolen someones work.

Washington , DC -- Aug 12, 2009

Congress today announced that the office of President of the United States of America will be outsourced to India as of September 1, 2009. The move is being made in order to save the President's $500,000 yearly salary and also a record $750 billion in deficit expenditures and related overhead that his office has incurred during the last 3 months. It is anticipated that $7 trillion can be saved to the end of the President's term. "We believe this is a wise financial move. The cost savings are huge," stated Congressman Thomas Reynolds (R-WA). "We cannot remain competitive on the world stage with the current level of cash outlay," Reynolds noted.

Mr. Obama was informed by email this morning of his termination. Preparations for the job move have been underway for some time.

Gurvinder Singh, a tele-technician for Indus Teleservices, Mumbai, India will assume the office of President as of September 1, 2009. Mr. Singh was born in the United States while his Indian parents were vacationing at Niagara Falls, NY. Thus making him eligible for the position. He will receive a salary of $320 (USD) a month, but no health coverage or other benefits.

It is believed that Mr. Singh will be able to handle his job responsibilities without a support staff. Due to the time difference between the US and India, he will be working primarily at night. "Working nights will allow me to keep my day job at the Dell Computer call center," stated Mr. Singh in an exclusive interview.

I am excited about this position. I always hoped I would be President." A Congressional spokesperson noted that while Mr. Singh may not be fully aware of all the issues involved in the office of President, this should not be a problem as President Obama had never been familiar with the issues either.

Mr. Singh will rely upon a script tree that will enable him to respond effectively to most topics of concern. Using these canned responses, he can address common concerns without having to understand the underlying issue at all.

"We know these scripting tools work," stated the spokesperson. "President Obama has used them successfully for years, with the result that some people actually thought he knew what he was talking about."

Obama will receive health coverage, expenses, and salary until his final day of employment. Following a two-week waiting period, he will be eligible for $140 a week unemployment for 26 weeks. Unfortunately he will not be eligible for Medicaid, as his unemployment benefits will exceed the allowed limit.

Mr. Obama has been provided with the outplacement services of Manpower, Inc. to help him write a resume and prepare for his upcoming job transition. According to Manpower, Mr. Obama may have difficulties in securing a new position due to a lack of any successful work experience during his lifetime. A greeter position at WalMart was suggested due to Obama's extensive experience at shaking hands, as well as his special smile.
