I used to have this problem many moons ago but a fix like Ageless posted got it working for me. I'm guessing your "make a link on the desktop" is an icon that starts BoincManager. You should be able to amend the settings for that icon such that it will start your preferred browser (firefox) It will be similar to the above workaround, open a command window and type which firefox On my system that would return /usr/bin/firefox so I'll use that for an example. Open the preferences of that icon and click the Application tab. You need to get the Command field to do 3 things 1, set the BROWSER variable 2, move into the boinc directory 3, start BoincManager again, for my system that will be export BROWSER=/usr/bin/firefox; cd /home/ajs/BOINC; ./boincmgr amend that line to suit your system and be careful not to miss any semicolons or dots Save the settings and give it a go :D HTH John |

I've had my Mandriva do the same thing. I just copy the addy over to FF from Konquer. I realize its something set by Mandriva. Probably something simple but I just dont see a big problem with it I now use the FF plugin Fast Dial which gives me a nice "homepage" with as many boxes as I want to have. Each box can be assigned to an address. By simply clicking on the box the desired page opens. I now set a few boxes to my Seti, Einstein and Rosetta account pages, one to the Boinc Stat page and one for this forum. It's strange since the previous version of Ubuntu (Hardy) did not have it. Are there more Jaunty users who have the same problem I have, which is although FF is set as preferred browser, links from with in the Boinc manager are opened in Epiphany. ______ DeMus

Jord, I tried that, but it didn't work. Sutaru, I finished all my WU's and un-installed the manager. After re-installation nothing changed, still the wrong browser is opened. Thanks guys, but it might be an bug in the new Linux version. Well, I can live with it, all the rest is working and I can visit the message boards and my account page. ______ DeMus

@ DeMus BTW. O.K., it's Linux.. but maybe similar? If you would have Windows and you would uninstall BOINC with the 'Windows software uninstall prog' all your WUs would stay at your PC. After installation of BOINC you could continue with the tasks. But first I would update and report the uploaded results.. ;-)

Try to set your browser up as default browser. |

I would try reinstalling FireFox.. sounds like it is not set as the default browser. You may be able to change that in the settings somewhere. Good luck -- Mike Not Ready Reading BRAIN. Abort/Retry/Fail? |

Hi all, I have installed the latest version of Ubuntu Linux as my new operating system. Since I ran Boinc from my home folder, I copied the whole Boinc folder onto my new home folder, make a link on the desktop and started crunching. This all works fine, except: when clicking the web related buttons in the manager (tab Projects) not the preferred browser Firefox opens, but a browser called Epiphany. Now I was thinking to re-install the manager and see what happens then. What consequences does this have for my running projects, and to be more precise, the WU's I have here waiting to be crunched? Do I loose these, or can I just continue crunching as if nothing happened? I use manager 6.4.5. Who can give an answer? Thanks in advance. ______ DeMus
