Hi,

I've noticed that the new astropulse WU's require 185 Hours to complete in one month. This is fine if you run one or up to five projects but for people like me who run five+ projects its not possible to complete these in the time allotted e.g. Present WU 2:15:56 0.874% 184:26:02 Due Date 12/05/2009? NOT POSSIBLE therefore I have to abort WU's due to them take time off other projects.

Do not Abort. So many people like you are putting tasks at risks because the tasks are running into the 'too many errors' situation. Therefore the WU is just wasted and anyone completing the task is wasting many hours of crunching for no returns

So either go to the Seti preferences and select not to accept AP task, not forgetting to set the bottom selection also.

Or install the optimised app that will speed up crunching by at least three times. You will then probably complete an AP V5 task in under 60 hrs.

edit] Example of probable too many errors. What are odds the "in progress" task will complete.

I've got one like that too WinterKnight. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=422819179 I'm debating whether to even start it. I haven't got to it yet.

This is why there is LONG TERM DEBT.

BOINC will "take time off of other projects" but it also keeps track (accumulating debt) and the time will be paid back later -- BOINC will not ask for more SETI until the debt has been repaid.

This is why resource share is not the highest priority -- BOINC can always reshuffle the order to make sure deadlines are met, and not ask for more right away.

Let it start.

Watch BOINC give extra time to that work unit.

Watch Long Term Debt build.

Watch BOINC avoid SETI until the debt is repaid.

No problem with ltd for me, all I run is Seti. I just hate to waste 60+ hours running a WU and then not get any credit for it or even know if it does any good for the science side of things. There's a 50/50 chance the next person to get that later today won't finish it either.

I'll probably run it anyway just for grins. It might pay off.
